I'm 18, I live with my father and my boyfriend in Indiana. I'm the only one in my house that doesn't complain when I have to make something from scratch and not from the box or freezer. :P I mostly bake, but I'm really eager to cook for people from my family to parties. I attend alternative education classes instead of regular high school, but I'm still technically a senior - still, I attend for 2 hours a day. No wonder I'm obsessed with cooking.
My mother's side of the family is Italian, and she took pride in it. She's responsible for teaching me how to add a "dash" of this and a "pinch" of that. She passed away 5 years ago, and unfortunately took almost ALL of her recipes to the grave. So it's up to me, I guess, to start up family secrets for my kids in the future, because nothing brings you closer to your family than home cooking.
My favorite things to cook
Cookies, cakes, pies, and everything pastry. I'd much rather deal with an oven than a stove top. But hey, I'm learning.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Obviously my mother's cooking during the holidays was the best. :) Turkey stuffing and Honey Ham are the two major things I can't wait for at Christmas.
My cooking triumphs
I'm beast at pumpkin pies and all cookies. #justsaying
My cooking tragedies
While I was preheating my oven, I forgot that overnight I stuck a fully decorated birthday cake in there to keep my animals from getting to it at night. I completely forgot about it and not only did it smoke up the whole house, our food tasted like burnt cake and icing.
