One Bowl Chocolate Cake III

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2014
Perfection! I was worried after reading some of the reviews, but the cake came out of the pans easily and was not too soft. I baked them in the evening. I put them in plastic wrap and frosted them in the morning. I prefer to frost cake when the layers are cold since it makes it so easy. I made a beautiful two layer cake with this cake. Yum! My go to recipe.

Cheesecake Lemon Bars

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2013
After reading some reviews that there needed to be a more lemon layer, I still decided to follow the initial recipe. On that note, looking at the pictures which show a thick lemon layer, those pics are deceiving because when people take a picture of the recipe which they modified, it looks like it will be perfect. I tried it exactly as is, but I definitely agree that it needs to have a thicker lemon layer. Next time, I am going to half everything, except the lemon layer, and make the dessert in a 8 x 8 pan. I also did not like the way the top looked browned, so I did decide to do the sour cream topping as some suggested.

Pineapple Upside Down Cupcakes

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2013
Very good! I made these for Christmas. I usually do a 13 x 9 pineapple upside down cake, but I thought these would be good for people to grab and put on a plate with other desserts. They were a hit. I will definitely make again. They were like cupcakes, so no cutting or forks needed. Most people just added them to the plate and ate with fingers like a cupcake.

Decadent Peanut Butter Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2013
This was really good! I made it exactly as is with the exception that I used homemade hot fudge. The premade Oreo crust was fine, but next time I think I will use a homemade crust too so that I will have a larger pan which can better hold all of the ingredients. It was hard to fit all of the ingredients in the pie and I was not able to put all of the fudge on the pie because it started to run over. After it hardened, I was able to add the whipped cream no problem. This was good and SWEET. My small family of four certainly got our sweet tooth satisfied and had to freeze leftovers.

Pasta Bake

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2013
It was good.... I added four cloves of fresh garlic to the mean and onion when cooking and some fresh mushroom. I think it needed a little something extra, so I will definitely add something to it next time like fresh parmesan or something. It was quick and easy, and with garlic bread and a salad, it made for a decent dinner.

Janet's Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2012
Loved it! I made one batch as muffins and baked for 25 minutes. I made a separate batch and baked as a loaf of bread. I do not know why, but the bread tasted so much better. The muffins did not seem to have the same strong flavor, and 2 of the muffins overflowed a little so it was a little bit of a waste. This is a delicious, moist bread. I followed the ingredients to a "T" except for slicing the bananas. I mashed the bananas instead. I will definitely make this again.

Fluffy Biscuits

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2011
These were amazing! Helpful hints: I did as others suggested and used half butter and half shortening. The flavor was great. I put all of the dry ingredients in the food processor and pulsed for a few seconds to blend in the butter and shortening. I added the milk and egg until just combined. I rolled between wax paper because the dough was sticky. It was a little messy, but easy to remove from the wax paper. Adding too much flour will make biscuits come out too dry.... great, simple recipe!

Chewy Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2011
Excellent cookie! Slightly crisp on the outside and perfectly moist and chewy on the inside. Will use again, possibly with a little more peanut butter. (If I had time to read the reviews, I would have known that!) Not a real peanut butter cookie, but next time I will fix that.

Cream Cheese Frosting II

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2011
This was really good, but for me, I needed way more sugar. I used this with a strawberry cake which had whipped filling and fresh strawberries. I definitely needed something a little sweeter, so I nearly tripled the sugar. It was perfect.

Twice Baked Potatoes II

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2011
I made these almost exactly as the recipe, but I had to add two cloves of fresh garlic to the mixture because I love garlic. I did not think cheese slices would be attractive, and I did not have any so I had to use grated cheddar as a substitute. I put the mixture in a piping bag and squeezed the mixture back into the potatoes with the huge star tip. It looked nice with sprinkled bacon and green onion. The taste was good, but not great, even with the added onion, bacon, and garlic. It was my first attempt at these, so I will definitely have to find a way to add more flavor next time, maybe more butter or cheese or something.

Cheese Garlic Biscuits II

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2011
I was extremely disappointed with the appearance of these biscuits, but they were delicious and simple to make compared to other recipies I have tried in the past. I wanted to try this new recipe because of the cheese and simplicity of the recipe. The texture was great, and it was super simple and an easy to follow recipe. I followed it to a "T," but next time I will work on making the biscuits more appealing visually. Oh, and the biscuits were really small, so if you want decent sized biscuits, double the recipe.

Mom's Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2011
I love baking and have many favorite cookie recipes, but I am always looking for new ideas and better recipes. This one was not it at all. The texture was good and they did taste ok, but there was definitely an odd taste. I cannot see making these again, especially considering that there was a full cup of butter in this recipe. The pudding sounded great, as I have always loved recipes with pudding in cake. The cookies, though, are better without pudding mix in my opinion.

Classic Cinnamon Rolls

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2011
I made the recipe exactly as directed for the dough. The only tough part was rolling it out. It was so sticky that I ended up adding almost a full cup of flour. Also, I did put all items in a breadmaker on the dough cycle, so it was a snap. Unfortunately, I ran an errand for the last 30 minutes and the dough overflowed a ton. Except for the mess, the breadmaker will be the way to go if I cut the recipe in half or watch it carefully at the end. Having tried the "Clone of a Cinnabon" recipe, I decided to try another because the only thing lacking for that recipe was a softer dough. This was it! For the filling, I used the "clone" filling of 1/3 cup butter, 1 cup brown sugar, and 2 1/2 T cinnamon. I also used the same frosting from that recipe too. I have only tried the two recipes for cinnamon rolls, and this one definitely has a nice, soft dough.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: May 31, 2011
Excellent cookie. I baked exactly as is, and the 1/4 cup made nice sized cookies. I used a mini pizza pan to make a large cookie using 1/2 cup cookie dough. It cooked in the same amount of time because the dough was spread thinner. Good recipe, if you use quality products, particularly quality chocolate chips, vanilla, and real butter. Next time I will add nuts or something.

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: May 22, 2011
This was a great recipe. My husband and kids loved it. I followed the recipe for the dough exactly except for the margarine. I only use butter. For the icing, I doubled it based on some reviews. I did not need to use all of it though. I think next time I will increase by about 50% instead. I baked it at 400 degrees as directed, and it came out perfectly because I had it on the bottom rack. They did not overbrown at all. In fact, I think next time I may let it bake a few minutes longer to get them a little more golden. With a bread maker, there was no work. The dough was easy to roll out, the filling stayed perfectly, so easy... I cannot believe I never tried cinnamom rolls before today!

Chocolate Cappuccino Cheesecake

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2011
Perfect cheesecake! I did add 1/2 cup espresso instead of the coffee liquer and instant coffee because I did not have either of those items on hand. I cooked my cheesecake in a water bath, so I am not sure if that messed up the cooking time or not. The cheesecake was just a tiny bit too soft in the middle, but it may have been due to the water bath and not the 45 minute bake time. Next time I will definitely cook it for an extra 10 minutes. Loved the recipe, perfect blend of chocolate, coffee (even those who "hate" coffee loved it) and the cinnamon was a nice, subtle touch. **One more thing, I have melted chocolate lots of times... adding the whipping cream was not a good idea. The chocolate got too thick. It's easier to melt without the whipping cream as it will stay smooth and easy to blend. Next time I will just melt the chocolate without the cream and add the cream to the mixture instead.

Sam's Famous Carrot Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2011
Great cake, just needs to be a tiny bit sweeter. I loved how it was filled with so much--nuts, coconut, pineapple, raisins. It was slightly dense, but light and yummy at the same time. The second time I made it I added 1/4 cup more sugar and it was perfect.

Cheese's Baked Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2011
This is an excellent base recipe. I did not have kielbasa, and after reading the reviews, I was not sure if there would be enough cheese sauce for all of the items with the kielbasa. I made the recipe mostly as is, except I added four bacon slices (diced) and a little parsley. The macaroni was so cheesy, as there was plenty of sauce minus the kielbasa. And, I did not add a full cup of bread crumbs. I thought it would be too much. Instead, I added crumbs from 4 Ritz crackers. Great recipe. I may try the kielbasa in the future if I increase the cheese mixture too. ***I made it a second time with kielbasa, and whoa!! What a difference, it was delicious. I increased the sauce by 50% to make sure that there would be plenty of sauce with the sausage. It was perfect.

Grandma Ople's Apple Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2010
This is the best apple pie I have ever made! I made a basic crust. I followed the recipe almost exactly as far as ingredients go except I did add a teaspoon of cinnamon to the apples prior to putting them in the dish. I was in too much of a hurry to make a lattice crust, so I just topped it with a regular crust and made slits on the top. This was so good on the day of, but amazingly, it tasted even better the next day. I will definitely use this over and over again. The caramel filling was the best and the apples were perfect-not too firm and not mushy.

Buttery Rolls

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2010
I made these exactly as directed. I used the bread machine, and they were perfect. My only issue is the time says 30 min, but the bread machine kneads and lets the dough rise for 1 hour and a half. The prep time is really close to two hours when you consider that you let the dough rise too. Some reviews said they were dense, but thanks to the bread machine (I think), they were perfect, soft, and buttery. Actually, the only change I made was to brush about 1/4 cup of melted butter on while they were piping hot. I am glad I did because they really were buttery on top. I am definitely using them tomorrow for Thanksgiving. Update: When I made these again today, I had some errands to run and ended up letting the rolls rise for about two hours. They were even better and lighter than before. I will definitely up the rise time for now on.
