About this Cook
I'm an American expat mother of four, living in Cairo, Egypt. I enjoy coooking both American and Egyptian food.
My favorite things to cook
Roasted Chicken with Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Egyptian Potato Oven Stew
My favorite family cooking traditions
Waffles for breakfast. Yum!
My cooking triumphs
I've mastered the Egyptian way of making broth. My husband says I make it better than his mom did!
My cooking tragedies
A traditional Egyptaian dish called mahshi. It's cabbage, grape leaves, zucchini, or any other vegetable you can stuff, stuffed with rice and tomato sauce. I can't roll up the cabbage, I poke holes in the zucchini when I bore it out, and I can never get the sauce right. My mother in law tried so many times to teach me, but I'm just no good at it.

Sybil's Old Fashioned Lemon Layer Cake
This is my favorite lemon cake recipe. I don't care for the glaze consistency of the frosting, so I use a different frosting recipe.

Carrot Cake
I absolutely love this cake! I do make a couple small changes, though. I stick the carrots in the microwave a couple of minutes to make them sweeter, and I add ground hazelnuts to the icing.

Crispy Fried Chicken
Yum! I did have to shorten the cooking time a little since I have a gas stove and I don't have a cast iron skillet. But it was really great!
