Almond Cookies I

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2012
Super easy to make and very delicious! My only qualm with this recipe is that it says "yields 4 dozen" - it does not. It does not even come close. I get about 30 cookies from this batch and I use a measured teaspoon scooper for each cookie. I also have to admit, I never tried the original recipe, just automatically made the adjustment that many have already made in their reviews - that is - 1 cup crushed almonds, and 1 cup flour. (The second batch I made I used a little less than 1 cup of flour with the 1 cup of almonds, and I think those were even better.) Also, I baked at 375 for about 11 mins. I'd definitely suggest waiting til you see color towards the bottom of the cookie, otherwise it will taste very doughy. Still pretty good, but not as perfect as when the bottom is a bit toasted. Basically - you will love these, and if you manage to make them and mess it up - I'd be impressed.

Pumpkin Muffins II

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2012
This recipe did not make 12 muffins. Unfortunately, I followed the recipe exactly, despite the initial disbelief. I don't even know where to start with these. First of all the timing is wrong, mine needed about 6 more minutes - and then the edges were getting a bit too brown so I took them out. This led to a couple of the middle muffins, collapsing since the middle wasn't completely done. Taste-wise, WAY TOO MUCH SPICE. Seriously, can't taste the pumpkin at all. Also, incredibly oily. I dont care too much about ingredients, health-wise, but these were way too oily. major disappointment all around really.

Brown Sugar Brownies

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2012
i doubled the recipe for a 13x9 inch pan. Left out all salt and walnuts, but added a standard size bag of nestle tollhouse semi sweet choc chips. I must say, it was delightful. VERY easy to make. I would definitely suggest overbeating the butter and brown sugar to make sure the flavors meld. I also kept it in for exactly 30 mins. Definitely glad i didnt go a second over that time because the edges were already a teeny tiny bit dry. Overall - winnnnerrrr, for ease and deliciousness. Tastes like maple syrup morsels!

Butter Flaky Pie Crust

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2012
Heads up - after chilling the butter, and the dough too much - this was never cooked when part of a 40 minute at 400 degrees apple pie recipe. next time would definitely pre-bake this before using for a recipe.

Blueberry Buckle

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2012
Just made this and it came out delicious. I had two problems though - 1) the crumb topping recipe says to "sprinkle" - but the mixture was way too goopy for anything like that so I added in an extra 1/3 cup of oats and just spread evenly over the top. 2) had to add an extra 20 mins to the baking time because it definitely didnt look done after 25. I don't know why there are so many reviews that say it came out dry. Mine had a really nice delicate crumb, and it was just right. Also used fresh blueberries and had no problem stirring them in.

Janet's Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2012
had some bananas that were begging to be mashed and turned into some bread - so, in a half-hearted attempt to not waste produce - - i happened upon the best banana bread ever. literally, worth every bit of 5 stardom. i guess my bananas were a bit on the smaller side of medium so i used 2.5 - and mashed them up (best part!). i also used 1 jumbo, and 1 medium egg., and 3/4 cup chopped pecans instead of walnuts. the sour cream and butter really shine. super tender and sweet, almost like a coffee cake instead of a quick bread. i want to make this over and over again!

Raspberry Lemon Muffins

Reviewed: May 29, 2012
These were okay. I definitely wouldn't say they're "5 star" muffins, and lemon/raspberry is actually one of my favorite flavor combos so im already being pretty lenient. My raspberries also leaked their color a bit so i had light pink muffin tops and a swirl of white/pink inside. I guess just make sure to not take those out of teh freezer until the second you're dropping them into the batter?

Baked Kale Chips

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2012
Super easy to make and really good! I love kale to begin with but this is a totally new way to enjoy it. I didnt have "seasoned salt" so i just used sea salt and a little bit of chili powder, garlic powder, and of course - parmesan! I will definitely be making these again, and playing with more spices. I think there's a recipe for salt/vinegar kale chips - - which sounds amazing!

Outrageous Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2012
super easy to make! turned out really delicious. the only substitution i made is using 1 tbspn ground flax seed + 3 tbspns water instead of the egg (no reason besides being out of eggs at the moment.) i kept the first batch in for 10 mins, took them out since the edges on some were already brown. second batch i kept in for twelve minutes. I'd advise to go with the 10 min mark as they do continue baking on the hot sheet once you take them out and they're definitely better when they're a bit chewy in the center.

Flourless Chocolate Cake II

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2012
this was good in terms of super simple and totally squashed my out-of-nowhere-super-intense need for chocolate. 30 mins at 300 degs cant possible be the correct temp&time.. im kind of surprised only a few other reviews mentioned that. maybe my oven, thermometer, and timer all malfunctioned?? in any case, i kept this in for 30 mins at 300, and it was completely raw in the middle, kept it in for another 15 at 325. it was still a bit underdone at that point, but i just wanted my fix so i took it out. i just made this but it seems like it will hold in taste for at least a week. Might even freeze a bit for when the next craving hits!

not terrible. definitely tastes healthy/fibrous. i threw in some raisins - definitely a good call. you need at least raisins or walnuts in there, otherwise - you will just be very sad eating this. :(

leave out the walnuts, unnecessary. split the sugar into half white, half brown. follow the rest of the recipe exactly. NO FAIL - best cookies i've ever made.

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies IV

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2011
THESE are AMAZING! I kept them in the oven for 2 extra minutes then promptly took them off the cookie sheet. So gloriously crispy on the outside with just a perfect tad of chewy in the middle. NEW STAPLE O&R recipe for sure. I also used rum soaked raisins for fun :) I dont think it altered the taste at all tho.

followed the recipe exactly. perhaps that was the downfall. ended up with boring pancake cookies and the incredibly subtle maple flavor completely disappeared once the cookies were cooled. :(

Apple Crumble Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2011
This was so easy to make! i added some allspice and cloves to the apples as well - LOVE those fall flavors. I also added some tapioca to the apples so it would not be a drippy soggy mess. i think next time i would use half brown sugar. It was definitely a hit though!

Mexican Cream Cheese Rollups

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2011
this was pretty good, and i dont even like olives. made it for my sister's birthday and everyone said they were great but didn't really grab them up. :/ the salsa for dipping is a necessity. and make sure you get the 10" flour tortillas, theyre better quality than the smaller ones for whatever reason (talking about Goya brand)
