Dad's Leftover Turkey Pot Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2012
As written, the pies are bland however the consistency was right on. There was no liquid in the filling at all. I modified as follows: 2 Yukon gold potatoes ,diced in bite size chunks and added to the veggies after they were cooked. I cooked the veggies in the broth as others suggested and saved the broth for the sauce. I also added some fresh carrots to the veggies to give the pie some more mass and texture. Lastly, i let the butter, onion and flour mix cookmfor 5 more minutes to help brown the mixture before adding thenstock and milk. One pie served 6 people and the sides were a green salad and a green vegetable. The family said it was a 5 star recipe with my modifications. They really liked how packed the filling was with veggies and meat and that the filling stood up by itself and nothing ran outside of the pie shaped slices I served.

Alyson's Broccoli Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2012
Awesome! took to a 50th birthday party. Was asked to make for next party. My changes: Used 1 lb bacon instead of 10 slices and cut them in pieces with a kitchen scissors before cooking. This way we didn't have to crumble anything. Used 4 florets instead of 1 head and added 1/2 cup of red seedless grapes, halved. Every else the same.

Orange, Walnut, Gorgonzola and Mixed Greens Salad with Fresh Citrus Vinaigrette

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2012
Made this for a 3rd of July party - got rave reviews from everyone and most had 2nd so I made it again for a 4th of July party. We now have some leftover dressing and am looking forward to making another salad with it for this weekend. Made a couple of modifications though; I decreased the sugar to 1/8 of a cup, I increased the balsamic vinegar to 2 1/2 Tbsp., I increased the black pepper & the dried oregano to 1/2 tsp. and I substituted 1 1/2 cans of mandarin oranges for the navel oranges.

Lori's Spicy Chipotle Lasagna

Reviewed: May 10, 2012
Made exactly as written. It was too cheesy. Because of this each of us only had once piece. We did not like the cream cheese taste and prefer Ricotta/Cottage Cheese in our Lasagna. The meat sauce was awesome however. The addition of the Chipotle chili and the Hot italian sausace made it! Next time we make lasagna, we will use this meat sauce but put it in a more traditional lasagna recipe.

Hidden Secret Burgers

Reviewed: May 7, 2012
Very flavorful. This will definitely be one of our hamburger recipes we use. We are looking forward to sharing it with our family and friends at a summer cook-out. We did make a change. In lieu of the pickled jalapeno and fresh red chile pepper (couldn't find one), we used 1 finely chopped fresh green serrano pepper.

Hummus III

Made recipe as written. Used a food processor. it was a bit "thick" and dried out when on a table over 30 minutes. Needed something to be more creamy

Japanese Zucchini and Onions

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2011
Made it exactly as written - very salty and too much liquid for the amount of vegetables used. Will make again but will use less teriyaki and soy sauces.

Yakisoba Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2011
Made the recipe as written. It was bland - not much flavor. It needed something to spice it up. Made it along side homemade sushi because we had family members who do not eat sushi.

BBQ Cola Meatballs

Reviewed: May 22, 2009
I made the sauce as written exactly and it was horrible. I made 5 cocktail meatball recipes from this site and did a taste comparison. This was the worst of all 5. The best was sweet & sour meatballs. Will not make again.

Cocktail Meatballs I

Reviewed: May 22, 2009
I used frozen meatballs from Sam's Club and made the sauce as written exactly. The meatballs were too sweet and the flavors didn't blend well. I used brand name Grape Jelly & brand named chili sauce. The Grape overpowered the chili sauce. Will not make again.

Perfect Sesame Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2009
made it exactly as written. Too much cornstarch. The sauce was too thick and looked a dirty brown color. No appealing at all. Flavor was OK. Not restaurant quality at all. If I make it again, I'd change the recipe so much it would be the same recipe.

Old Fashioned Stollen

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2008
A blah recipe. The stollen is bland in flavor. Texture and size is good however. I made 2 stollen recipes - this one and another one which has nutmeg, allspice and cinnamon. My family (hubby, 19, 18 and 19 year old boys) preferred the 2nd one. I will add that recipe after Christmas.

Garlicky Baked Butternut Squash

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2008
I made it exactly as the recipe states. My husband did not like his squash prepared this way. He prefers baked squash with brown sugar & butter. I liked it - especially the garlicky flavor. It is definitely a different way to cook squash and unfortunately will not make it again since only 1/2 of the people who ate it said they would eat it again.

Sausage Barley Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2005
Great for dinner on a cold night! Very easy to make! I added 5 chopped tomatoes with the carrots and some red pepper flakes. We served it with a loaf of french bread. Needless to say our family of 5 ate it all up at one meal. The teenagers wanted to know when we are making it again.
