Out of this World Turkey Brine

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2006
this was the first turkey I put in brine. I let it set two days, used a frozen turkey, about 20 lbs. I added an extra half of this recipe to cover it completely.I put it in a large clean pail/bucket, covered it and put it in the garage(34-35 degrees F. in the garage,) the weather was perfect. when cooked, it was flavorful and really nice. my husband even commented on the difference. will try with chicken sometime. A+++++

Peanut Butter Marshmallow Squares

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2006
this is the kind of sweet treat that dreams are made of!!! I have made these for many years and they disappear off the plate almost instantly. heaven!! the only thing I do differently is no nuts or coconut. mmmm! ( I have to add a note to this review after reading the review of this recipe by a MIRABLUE!! bakers, do not be put off by her review. this is one of the five top square recipes ever! delicious and always a huge, huge hit!! the melding of the peanut butter and butterscotch is just so intensely wonderful. try it and you will not be sorry!I can not say enough about the excellence of this square! PERFECT, PERFECT, PERFECT!)

Peppermint Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2006
very nice cookie. I made several changes to this recipe though. I use only butter when baking cookies, and added some red food coloring and 1/2 tsp. mint extract. When baked and cooled, I dipped half of each cookie in milk chocolate and then in crushed peppermint candy canes. Makes a nice color contrast on a plate of cookies. Watch carefully if using butter while in the oven as butterfat will burn easily.

Best Ever Caramel Apple Crisp

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2006
I am giving this recipe only two stars as it is a disaster to clean up! It was tasty and everyone liked the flavor of the caramels, but the mess it made in my pan, took hours of soaking in boiling water and scrubbing! I strongly recommend that if you are going to try this, line your pan with HEAVY foil and then grease the foil, before putting the apples mixture in the pan. I will not make this again, think I will stick with my regular recipes.

Slow Cooker Sauerkraut and Sausage

Delicious! The onion and brown sugar give it just the right flavors. I used polish sausage and chopped the onion. Will be making this again!

Mocha Java Bars

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2006
So good! This recipe needs some small changes though. I have been baking for many years, so have learned to go with my instincts when trying a new recipe. I cut out the 2 tsp. of coffee granules, as it would be way too strong and bitter. I also cut the icing sugar to 2 cups, and I added two tbls. corn syrup as it gives an extra mellow sweetness to the frosting.Whenever I make frosting for cakes or squares etc., I always add corn syrup to give it an extra rich and creamy taste. Use a 9 inch pan, fits just right. However if you want very thin and dainty type squares, use a 9x13 inch pan. Just great! Also, they would be better without the melted chocolate on them, don't need it really. They have all the flavor and sweetness without it.

Four Spice Crackles

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2006
wonderful!! I made a few small changes in the recipe. I used 1 tsp. ginger, and more cinnamon and cloves, and NO nutmeg. I also cut the flour to 2 1/4 cups. these cookies are crispy on the outside and soft and chewy inside. you don't want to stop eating these!! next time I will try more ginger, think it would be just as yummy.

WOW! This is sooooo good! Excellent! I added cinnamon to the honey mixture and added some peanuts. Can just imagine the raves from my church group when they sample this! A new fav. in this house! Oh yes, turn your oven to 275F and bake 40 minutes, stirring every 10 min. DO NOT BAKE AT 375F!

Glazed Apple Cookies

Reviewed: May 1, 2006
very good cookies! the icing is the perfect finish to these soft, spicy cookies. I used 2 eggs, 2 cups grated apple, 1/2 tsp. baking soda,1/2 tsp. baking powder, and butter instead of shortening. I also put cinnamon in the icing. soooooooooo delicious!

Chewy Chocolate Cookies III

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2007
Two stars for this cookie as I was very disappointed in how it baked into a typical flat pancake-like cookie. I have been baking for years and have not seen such a flat cookie recipe in about as many. They were hard to remove from my well greased sheet ,even after I let them sit on the sheet for a few minutes to cool off. They are crumbly and not a very solid cookie at all. On a positive note, they are a very tasty cookie. I won't be making these again. sorry, just not happy at all with these.

Fudge Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2006
this is a lovely, smooth sauce. it is really good with a slice of white cake or over ice cream. I left out the cinnamon, but I am sure it would be just as tasty. easy to assemble and keeps a long time in the fridge.served it during the holidays.

Grandma's Rhubarb Torte

Reviewed: May 25, 2006
this gets a 4 star rating because the quanties are simply too large for a 9x13 pan. next time I make this I will use only 4 eggs and cut down the milk used to 2/3 cup.otherwise it is a very tasty dessert. (or use a larger pan, like a lasagna pan for example.)

Big Soft Ginger Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2011
Wonderful cookies. I did make very few changes, added extra half cup of flour and added 1T. milk as I had no orange juice. I would not put the extra flour in next time, as the dough was too dense. It was also hard to mix it together well. I put my dough in the fridge overnight and made them in the morning and squashed them down gently with a spoon before placing in oven to bake. I think I have eaten at least a dozen already, although I made them smaller than the pictures here.A ten star cookie for sure! So good.

Dekicious! I hate making pie crust and this is soooo easy and everyone liked it. Sweet, and spicy with the cinnamon. It was good the next day and did not taste like a cookie on top of baked apples, as someone mentioned in their review.Yummy!

I made these with applesauce instead of oil ,and next time I will stick with the oil. Gave them five stars as I believe if I had followed this recipe they would have been perfect and delicious! Were a little too dense and heavy this way.
