About this Cook
Widow, mother, grandmother, author, opinionated, in no particular order....
My favorite things to cook
Organic, fresh, from scratch, REAL FOOD! If I can't pronounce it, I don't eat it or feed it to my family. I'm allergic to preservatives, MSG, and salt sensitive. Too many recipes posted here depend on instant flavorings and canned soup. I skip right over those, as they would kill me.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Real food prepared with love, from scratch. I use a lot of old family recipes passed down from ancestors, but I replace horrible things like shortening and margarine with real butter. I have an herb garden in my house and outside in summer. I also have a veggie patch. Real food...
My cooking triumphs
No convenience foods in my kitchen, ever. You won't find a single can of soup, or packet of dry soup mix. You won't find any seasonings laden with salt and/or MSG. None of my spices contain anti-caking agents. Fat is not our enemy. Sugar is, and that includes potatoes, white rice, and white flour--most wheat, actually.
My cooking tragedies
Gluten free. My daughter has Celiac, and I have tried to make gluten free buns for her that turn out more like torpedoes than buns. They're pretty funny. ;)

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast
The family liked it, but I can't eat recipes made with convenience foods. A lot of recipes at this site are dependent on packaged flavorings, canned soup, etc. I'd sure like to see more recipes cooking from scratch, to avoid additives, preservatives, and sodium. This one is inedible to someone like me, sensitive to such ingredients.
