Jo's Rosemary Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2012
This bread is fabulous!! My husband and I alone finished the entire loaf in 3 days (and we're not big bread eaters). The only changes I made was to use fresh herbs instead of dried. I used 1 tsp fresh oregano and 2 tsp fresh rosemary in place of the dried rosemary and italian seasoning. I will definitely be making this again!!

Homemade Black Bean Veggie Burgers

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2009
Awesome, don't change a thing! I am the only vegetarian in my house so I made the whole batch but froze the other three burgers. They seemed to have frozen well - I thawed one out today and cooked it on the grill and it tasted great!

Sesame Shrimp Stir-Fry

Reviewed: May 22, 2009
This is fantastic! I omitted the green onions as I didn't have any on hand and it was still great. I also added broccoli. Next time I will experiment with more veggies like mushrooms, asparagus, etc. Will be making again soon!

MMMMM... Brownies

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2009
These are absolutely the best from-scratch brownie recipe I have ever made! They really do taste like boxed brownies and I have been looking for a long time for a recipe as good as the fudgey mixes. The only thing I changed in this recipe is I used milk chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet because that is all I had on hand. Next time I will try it with semi-sweet but it was still great with the milk-chocolate. Definitely a keeper!

Jamie's Cranberry Spinach Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2009
I continually make this salad after finding the recipe a few months ago. It is absolutely fabulous. I have never used poppy seeds, I don't really think they're necessary. Tonight, I didn't want to cut up an onion for 1 TBSP (I halve the recipe - it's more than enough for four people) so I just added about 1/4 tsp of onion powder to the dressing instead. Definitely the best salad recipe I've ever tried!

Easy Pizza Sauce III

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2009
Great flavor in this sauce. I did use 1 clove of fresh minced garlic in place of dried. I also added 1 tsp basil, 1/2 tsp sugar, and 1/2 tsp onion powder. I blended it all together in the food processor.

Rich Chocolate Frosting

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2009
I halved this recipe and it was just enough to frost 20 large cupcakes. The only thing I changed was once everything was mixed together I beat it all for about 5 minutes until it was more "whipped". I will definitely use this recipe again! Great flavor.

Asparagus Roll-Ups

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2009
My parents loved them as I made them and said it was a 5* recipe, but I think next time I will cut down on the cream cheese a bit, and add some more asparagus. The cream cheese was just a little overpowering. The only changes I made was I used green onion and garlic salt in place of the chives since I didn't have any on hand. Great flavor though, and I will definitely make again. My dad does not like asparagus but he said these were great. Thanks!!

Vegetarian Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2009
I am rating this based on the taste of the meatballs only (not the sauce). I made them as directed except I baked them in a dish without any sauce on them. Once they came out, I separated them and put a few in marinara sauce for meatball subs for dinner ("Best Marinara Sauce Yet" recipe on this site) and the rest I am freezing for later. I plan to try the sweet and sour sauce later. The meatballs are so good, though! The only thing I changed is I used low fat cottage cheese and cheddar cheese to cut down on the fat, and I added a clove of garlic.

Best Marinara Sauce Yet

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2009
I made this sauce exactly as is except I used canned diced tomatoes instead of stewed and I added an extra can. I also added a TBSP of brown sugar and used red wine instead of white. Fantastic!!!

Carrot Cake III

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2009
Per other suggestions, I substituted apple sauce for the oil, and used half brown sugar and half white. I also doubled the cinnamon and added a bit of nutmeg and a bit of ground cloves. The cake was extremely moist and delicious!!

Grandma's Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2008
Very good flavor, however, I would either increase the green beans or decrease the sauce. It was too soupy and the sauce, while it had a great flavor, was overpowering. I will definitely make it again, with adjustments!

Spinach Muenster Quiche

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2008
This was a hit! I cut down the Munester cheese by about half. Next time, I think I'll leave it off the bottom too. I am looking at a lot of low-carb recipes because my mom needs low-carbs, but I am a vegetarian who is somewhat lactose-intolerant so we are having trouble finding things that works for both of us and pleases the picky males in the house. This one was a hit! I got compliments from everyone in the family. Will definitely be making again, and soon!

Lime Fish Tacos

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2008
These were fabulous! We have a lot of frozen fresh snapper that we caught over the summer and I've started looking up some recipes to use it in. This was the first one I tried, but I think it will remain my favorite! I took the advice of the reviewers here and changed just a little bit with the sauce. I doubled everything, and we went through all of the sauce. I added a little bit of salt, and probably about 1/2 tablespoon of onion powder, as well as about 1/2 teaspoon of cilantro. I also upped the hot sauce a bit (it still was not spicy even with the addition). We stuck with just putting tomatoes and lettuce on the burrito. We also used low-carb wheat burritos, and they were SO good! My dad told me three or four times how good they were, and he was really skeptical to try them! Everyone thought they were fabulous and we will be making them again soon! Thanks so much for the recipe!

Decorator Frosting

I made this recipe to decorate a chocolate chip cookie cake. I added a bit of almond extract for flavor, and teal food coloring instead :) Worked out great, and tastes good!

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2008
These are SO GOOD! The only changes I make are: I use margarine instead of butter, I omit the nuts (I just don't like nuts), and I use milk chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet. I usually add in other types of chips as well. I generally make a sheet or two with just milk chocolate, then add peanut butter chips and make another sheet or two, then add white chocolate chips. YUMMY!

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2008
I cooked these with the 1/2 brown sugar suggestion, plus I included a cream cheese/kahlua mixture on top, and they were so good! For the cream cheese mixture I used 8 oz cream cheese and 5tbsp butter at room temperature, beaten together with one egg, 1/4 cup sugar, 1tbsp kahlua, and 1/2 tbsp of vanilla. Then just poor on top of brownie batter in pan and swirl in with a knife. They are fabulous!!!

Easy Gravy

Reviewed: May 5, 2005
This gravy wasn't what I was looking for. It tasted too flour-y, and I'm not sure why. I did add mushrooms which gave it a bit of interest.
