This is an excellent chili recipe and I won 1st place out of ten contestants. I made it the night before, cooked (simmered) it for about 2.5 hours, let it cool and then placed it in the fridge. It is more flavorful the next day - trust me as I made it for superbowl weekend to test on my wife and we both agree it was much better the next day. I modified it a bit and used real bacon as others recommended and sautéd the onions, celery and garlic in the bacon grease. I used 1 lb Black Angus cube steak, 2lbs ground beef and 1 lb spicy Italian sausage. I browned the cube steak then added the ground beef and Italian sausage. Drained the grease then added the rest of the ingredients. I also substituted the sugar with brown sugar. This is so easy and so flavorful and I won 1st place the second time making it... Enough said.
