Rocco's Olive Bread

Reviewed: May 2, 2004
This turned out awfully. The olives were macerated by the bread machine and the whole overall taste was not good. The kids wouldn't even touch it and they love bread. As olive bread goes, I'd go find another recipe...

Mall Pretzels

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2004
These are GREAT! I didn't have bread flour so I used 4 cups all purpose flour and the turned out fine. I got lots of compliments from my husband's co-workers and my kids just inhale them. There were none left within 30 minutes of bringing them out of the oven. Super. Thanks!

Black Bean Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2004
This definitely needed something. I chose it to make on Fridays because it had no meat - but wow, it really lacked. It was like chili gone wrong. We tried to eat the leftovers but they're still sitting in the fridge. We will not be making this again.

Quick and Easy Pancit

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2004
My husband gave this a 3/5, or an 8/10 (we like the 10 scale). He really liked it. We modified the recipe by adding "some" chicken broth (probably 3/4 cup) and about 2 tablespoons of oyster sauce to cut the soy sauce taste and make a bit more "sauce" to go on the noodles. I think it really came out a lot better than if it was just soy sauce alone! We also added some (powdered) ginger. Would've used fresh but didn't have any on hand. We'll be making this again. Our kids loved it, ate the leftovers tonight!

Garlic Salmon

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2004
I would've given this 2 stars but my husband thought it should get 3. It was very bland. Needed a LOT of black pepper to make it have any zip at all. We will not be making it again. I was disappointed - definitely not a 5 star recipe in my book.

Baked Dijon Salmon

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2004
One of the best salmon dinners we've ever had. Fabulous. My husband loved it, my kids loved it, I loved it. Wouldn't change a thing.

Grandma Johnson's Scones

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2004
Made this for the first time tonight. We had to put the rest away so we wouldn't eat them right now! Really good. I didn't have cream of tartar, so left that out, but will get some @ the store - I don't think it affected anything though. Also, we split the recipe in half to make 2 circles w/8 pieces each instead of one circle with 12 pieces (those would've been BIG scones).

Apple Crisp II

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2005
Everything an apple crisp should be! It does not need the water - I left that out completely. I did a 1.5 recipe of the crisp portion and it turned out fantastic. Next time I will add some more oatmeal. Also, I will use less sugar on the inside - maybe 2/3 or 1/2 cup instead of the full cup - it doesn't need that.

Blackened Salmon Fillets

Reviewed: May 6, 2005
FANTASTIC. I omitted the cayenne pepper in the interests of kids eating it and it wasn't missed at all. I also used only 3-4T of butter instead of the whole 1/2 cup - no need to drizzle butter all over it - it's already being cooked in it! Again - WONDERFUL recipe!

Bean Burrito Casserole

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2006
Awesome recipe! My husband was skeptical when he heard the name but LOVED it and said to give it 5 stars or a 9/10. Made some changes to the recipe though - doubled the sauce recipe; used 7oz green chiles, 2 cans mushroom soup, 1c lite sour cream, added a can of corn and 2 chicken breasts cut up and sauteed in olive oil w/garlic. Fabulous!

Light Oat Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2007
amazing bread. I agree with the other reviews! My kids loved it, the oats do "disappear" and it's great toasted the next day. Yum!

Basboosa

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2007
This was delicious! I used only a fraction of the syrup called for however - saved the rest as most of the first batch got eaten today by friends and coworkers! I also had only 3/4 cup of yogurt but went ahead anyway. I upped the coconut slightly and ended up having to cook it an additional 6 minutes, and then under the broiler for about 45 seconds.

Strawberry Chocolate Mousse Cake

Reviewed: May 13, 2007
Fantastic! Very simple to make. I used crushed oreo cookies w/o the centers for the bottom. Topped with canned whipped cream. Next time I'll put strawberries along the bottom as suggested by another poster, I think that'd taste delicious. Also, I used "whipping cream" instead of "heavy cream" and it worked out just fine - the recipe calls for "heavy whipping cream" and it all worked out fine.

Real Sopapillas

Reviewed: May 21, 2007
Excellent! I made these for my son's Mexican themed kindergarten potluck and they were gone in a flash. I fried them on my stovetop in a pan with oil set on medium heat. Dusted w/powdered sugar & topped w/honey. The house smells great! As for reviews stating they're inauthentic - these are just like the ones you get in a restaurant.

Tofu Parmigiana

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2008
2/4 kids really liked this; my husband did not and I thought it was mediocre. It still was very clearly tofu; it was not a great treat. We won't be making it again. If you're just looking for a way to use up some tofu like we were, keep looking!

Looked great, texture was nice, had an odd aftertaste that none of the family enjoyed. Won't be trying again.

These were awesome! I omitted the molasses and used butter instead of margarine but otherwise made as written. They are so soft on the inside!

Malooba

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2010
made exactly as described. Smelled nice. Was EXTREMELY mild - could use a lot more spices. I was disappointed. My kids ate it the first night, but wouldn't finish the leftovers. Had to throw the rest away - and this makes a LOT. Won't be making again.

Parmesan Spinach Balls

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2011
Taste would've been 3/5. These really stuck to the baking sheet even though I sprayed it. So badly that the bottoms came off of several. I didn't bother making the other half of it and chucked it all in the trash; the taste was OK but this recipe lacked something...

Flatlander Chili

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2011
AWESOME chili! I made as directed except: used 1 lb ground beef, 1 lb pork sausage. Substituted tomato sauce for tomato juice, and diced tomatoes for tomato sauce. I also used dried beans that I boiled separately and added at the end, because the texture is superior to canned beans. Everybody in the family loved this!
