Tudor Recipe for Ginger Beer

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2009
This is exactly what I was looking for. Although at a first glance the recipe looks complicated, when you get started it all makes sense. Choose plastic bottles that were sold with carbonated drinks in them as my recycled milk bottle exploded. Having made this recipe four times now, I leave the bottles on the side from day 8-14 and carefully unscrew the top to release the pressure every day. It is amazing how fizzy this drink gets. Don't try and reduce the sugar, it really tastes better with the full amount as stated in the recipe. My guests have loved this and it is a great talking point.

Banana Oatmeal Cookies II

Reviewed: May 2, 2008
Tired of banana bread, I chose this recipe as a way of using up ripe bananas. I used four bananas (not one), margarine instead of shortening, extra cinnamon, no cloves and some chocolate chips but otherwise kept the quantities of the ingredients unchanged. The result was a very moist and tasty cake-like cookie, which was particularly good fresh from the oven. I was surprised at how many cookies it made. I shall make these again when I have bought too many bananas!

Meatless Lasagna

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2008
My whole family really enjoyed this recipe. In the Middle East, where I live, I couldn't find a large can of crushed tomatoes so I used two tins of chopped tomatoes and I found the closest local product similar to ricotta cheese. Why add meat when a meatless recipe can be this tasty? This is my new lasagna recipe. Thanks for sharing.

Chicken Satay

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2004
Great recipe! I made half the quantity of marinade with less soy sauce - wonderful. I added raw veggies to the skewers (red & green pepper, onions and zucchini). I did not grill but cooked them on a square griddle (loosely covered) and let them simmer in the extra sauce. I served with rice and salad. The meal was a big hit.

Greek Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2004
Overall I was very pleased with this recipe which I took to an Olympic Greek party. However, quite a lot of my cookies burnt on the bottom. I would probably add a tiny bit more almond extract next time as that gave a lovely flavour to the cookies. I found the most effective way to roll the dough in to "s" shapes was to dust my hands with confectioners' sugar so it didn't stick to my fingers.

Chicken Cordon Bleu II

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2004
5 stars for taste but it just felt a little unhealthy with all the butter and cream. Any suggestions to make it healthier but just as tasty?

Roasted Rack of Lamb

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2004
This was very tasty! I chose a poor cut of lamb as it didn't have enough meat but I can see the potential in this recipe. I bought some fresh rosemary for another superb recipe on this site (easy focaccia bread) and this was a great recipe so that none of the rosemary was wasted.

Easy Focaccia

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2004
The second time I made this I added plenty of extra rosemary and parmesan in to the dough before kneading it and putting on the baking sheet. It tasted even better. My husband and I love dipping it in a mixture of balsamic vinegar, olive oil and pepper.

Enchilada Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2004
This was the first time I have ever made enchiladas. I made half the quantity of this sauce and my husband loved it. I was surprised at how easy it was to make.

Grandma Johnson's Scones

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2004
Wonderful recipe. I made four times the quantity for an English Afternoon Tea that I hosted (for 40+ people). I baked them the day before and then heated them up in the oven before serving. I received so many compliments for the scones.
