About this Cook
I am at that season in life where I have been blessed to be married to a wonderful man with whom we have raised three children and now have four wonderful grands. I am a retired city planner living in both Orlando FL and Detroit MI. I love to cook for family and friends two or three times a year , play golf, sing in the church choir and generally enjoy life! We like to travel a bit, but mostly just enjoy every day of good health for what it is. ...
My favorite things to cook
Fresh seafood, greens, and relishes. Salsas, pepper relishes for peas, beans and green vegetables. Love chocolate and wine. Simple fresh and well seasoned foods are a passion.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family cooking tradition has deep southern roots. We love fresh collards, cabbage, kale and spinach simmered with smoked poultry parts and seasoned with peppers. Most of our family recipes have been updated to make them less greasy and fattening; but retaining traditional seasonings and spices. We look sweet potato dishes, i.e.. pies, and casseroles; black eyed peas and cornbread and summer squash.. As African Americans, we are known for our culinary skill in the use of spices and seasonings in order to make the cheapest ingredients taste wonderful!! Now that we can afford a few of the better ingredients well, those favorite dishes are all the more delicious and healthy.
My cooking triumphs
Seafood gumbo at Christmas time. Chili, greens of any kind, salmon are my signature dishes. Oatmeal chocolate chip or gingerbread molasses cookies. are my favorite holiday or special occasion treats. Also my Pear/ Roquefort Cheese salad is loved.
My cooking tragedies
Too many to explain!

Molasses Cookies II
This was a wonderful quick treat for my three grandsons! My son and husband loved them too. I'm glad I read the reviews regarding the salt; I cut it in half too.

Swiss Chard Sauteed with Lime
Delicious. A great way to use fresh greens at its peak . I also added 1/2 tsp minced garlic and a bit of onion. The lime really does add some zing!
