About this Cook
I'm the mother of a family blend of four grown children, with nine grandchildren.
My favorite things to cook
Baking bread, baking brownies, baking cake, baking....
My favorite family cooking traditions
We're the average Midwest family-a variety of typical farm food, a little Asian, a little Tex-mex, a little of this, a little of that. We dabble in variety, but come back to our Midwestern roots for favorites.
My cooking triumphs
Putting food on the table, snacks in the cupboard and drinks in the fridge is a triumph all its own. A lifetime of effort to keep the family well-fed and heppy.
My cooking tragedies
No real tragedies; I love to try new recipes and not all recipes please every person. No flames, mo charred pans...yet.

Chickpea and Pasta Soup
A good, simple soup. Next time I'll reduce the garlic-personal taste. I omitted the rosemary, added a little celery and carrot to the garlic.

Overnight Vegetable Salad
An easy and inexpensive salad. I had a 12-0z package of "Italian vegetables" and decreased the amount of dressing by 25%. I used the microwave to steam the vegetables (using a pampered chef pan with drainage holes) and cooked the dressing one minute, stirred, then cooked one more minute in the microwave. (1000-watt oven). The dressing was a little thick, but covered the vegetables and kidney beans nicely. I used frozen red pepper, thawed, celery, and a combo of white and purple onion that was already chopped. The dressing is a little too sweet for my taste, thus the 4-star rating. I'll try decreasing the sugar a bit next time, or possibly just a small amount of Splenda to make this a friendly dish for diabetics.

Four-Fruit Salad
Love this! I use any fresh citrus juice, depending on what fruits I am using, but orange juice brings out the sweetness in most fruits.
