I'm born and raised a Texan and at 46 yrs old. I am a true Texan. I love cooking cakes, pies, candies and desserts but I also just love Southern Food. I grew up pretty much on the border of Texas and Louisiana and most of my family are True Cajuxans. That's a mix of Cajun and Texan!
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook just down home recipes that my grandmas, mom, dad and aunts cook. Give me a big ole' T-bone steak and I bet I can make your mouth water so much you won't need no iced tea! Oh and there is my Chicken and Dumplings that my aunt makes me cook for her and I don't get me started on my desserts. Yes, I can put the pounds on ya, but I've always heard, Never Trust a Skinny Cook!
My favorite family cooking traditions
We cook big and we cook it good! Thanksgiving and Christmas is our biggest days to cook of course like most people. If someone wants it, we cook it no matter how much we already have and it's gonna get eaten too.
My cooking triumphs
My grandma passed away in 1986. She always had this Buttermilk Pound Cake whenever any of us would come and visit. Now I used to help her make this but you know when you're a kid you don't pay attention to detail and I was no exception. After she passed I became obsessed with trying to make this cake JUST LIKE HERS but it took me years to perfect it. I can gladly say I know how to do it and mmmm it just melts in your mouth just like hers did.
My cooking tragedies
Fried Chicken! My momma made fried chicken every Sunday with mashed potatoes and gravy, corn and biscuits and a lot more. I have never been able to fry chicken. It's just beyond me.
