Russian Mushroom and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2015
This was a really good, very simple soup! I didn't make any changes. Next time, I might prefer to use more Potato and less Mushroom.

Steve's Chicken Noodle Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2015
Not a bad, easy chicken soup. I didn't want to make 12 servings, so I changed the recipe to make only 4 servings. I thought that 10+ cups of chicken broth was way too much, so I only used 6 cups for the 4-serving adjusted recipe. I also added 2 tsp of minced garlic and some red pepper flakes when I added the celery, etc. (I like my soup a little spicy) I did not add any rosemary. I added a few dashes of garlic salt when I poured in the broth. Also only needed half of the noodles in the recipe.

Lentil and Smoked Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2015
Good recipe as a guide, but changed it to make it not-vegetarian! First I did add some chopped carrots and a little more cabbage than the recipe called. I also doubled the garlic. I used chicken broth instead of the water and veggie bouillon. I used two Hillshire Farm's smoked sausages instead of veggie sausage. I added 1 tsp of black pepper towards the end of cooking, for a little extra kick, and also added 1 tsp of salt.

Minestrone Soup I

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2015
This was a very good soup! I only made a few changes: I doubled the garlic, and doubled the tomato paste (used 2 tbsp). I also only used 1 1/2 tsp parsley, but added 1 tsp basil and 1 tsp oregano, along with 1/4 cup of red wine. I used a can of chopped tomatoes instead of stewed. Finally, I added 1 1/2 tsp black pepper and a few dashes of red pepper flakes to spice it up a bit more. I also only simmered for an extra 15 minutes after adding the pasta.

Tuscan Style Bean Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2015
I was afraid that this soup would be bland, after reading some of the reviews so I made a few changes: I tripled the garlic(!), used 1 can of red kidney beans and 1 can of cannelini beans, as well as 1 can of chopped tomatoes; added 1/4 cup of red wine; used 4 cups chicken broth (instead of 3); added 1 tsp garlic salt, 2 tsp salt, 1 tsp cayenne pepper, 1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes. It was not a bad soup, but still maybe a little on the bland side. I might try this again with some Italian sausage.

Sweet Potato Pie I

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2015
This was a delicious pie. Forgive my ignorance but I'm always confused about the Yam vs. Sweet Potato thing, and whether it actually makes a difference for a recipe. I first tried this pie with a yam, and it was way too stringy. (Don't know if that makes any sense) Then I bought a legitimate sweet potato, and it was perfect--a huge hit at a party! Not too sweet, just tasty and delicious.

Banana Cream Pie I

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2015
I loved this pie! It was a big hit at a recent party, and I didn't forget the whipped cream on top :) I agree with other reviewers that this pie does NOT need to be baked after the filling goes in. I put it in the fridge for a few hours before serving, and it was perfect.

Not a bad soup, but I didn't find it to be particularly flavorful or special.

Dijon-Tarragon Cream Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2014
I really like this recipe, but made a couple adjustments. It wasn't mentioned but I tenderized the breast halves just a little. Like some of the reviewers have noted, I coated the chicken on both sides with flour before seasoning with salt and pepper. I also doubled the heavy cream, dijon mustard, and the tarragon. The original recipe didn't give us enough sauce! Otherwise, this is a good recipe, and I'll be making this for dinner pretty often!

Garden Fresh Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2013
Fresh, light, and tasty. I would say that this makes closer to 4 servings than 6. (4 bowls or 6 cups of soup, maybe). I did what one reviewer suggested which was to puree the whole thing in a blender after it boils for 20 minutes, before going to the roux step. I also added parsley, basil, and thyme. I might try this again with some garlic. It was a tasty soup, and perfect with a grilled cheese sandwich (I had a smoked cheddar grilled cheese), but I think it was missing something, so maybe I'll add garlic next time.

Shrimp Scampi Bake

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2013
This was amazing. My husband is so picky that it's actually really difficult to find recipes that he'll like! (His only flaw ;) ) But he loved this, and so did I. It was extremely easy to make, and perfect with some linguine pasta.

Grandma's Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2013
A surprise hit at Thanksgiving! It didn't really look like anything special to be honest, but when my guests got a taste, they all loved it and went back for seconds and thirds. Loved the sour-cream and buttery flavors.

Cranberry Sauce I

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2013
So easy to make, and possibly the best cranberry sauce I've ever had. My Thanksgiving guests said the same thing) After the berries started to pop, I think I kept cooking it for another 5 minutes. Total cooking time was about 9 minutes for me.

Split Pea and Ham Soup I

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2013
Hearty, delicious soup! My husband and I both loved this. I soaked the split peas overnight, and I did add a couple bay leaves and garlic, and added some leftover ham from Thanksgiving along with the ham-bone--but otherwise followed directions. Best pea soup I've had in years!

Chicken El Dermie Le Hermie

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2013
I added pads of butter of top of each chicken drumstick, as well as chili powder, and this was very good. For me, it still needed salt afterwards, but still good, and very easy and simple!

Hungarian Mushroom Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2013
This is a wonderful mushroom soup. I use about twice the lemon juice to make it extra tangy (but don't use more than that, because then it'll be really sour!), and I also used 1.5 times the amount of paprika. I add a couple dashes of red pepper flakes when I add the paprika, for some extra kick. Overall, really delicious, and I make this soup regularly.

Mexican Shrimp Cocktail

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2013
A party hit! I made a batch of this for a party over the weekend, and all of it was gone faster than anything else served. It IS a bit soupy and thin, so I added a little extra ketchup.

Janet's Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2013
I've made this recipe several times now, and it is always delicious and sweet, without being "too sweet." I wasn't crazy about the mushy, purply banana pieces that you get a day or so after baking this bread--so, I started chopping the bananas into smaller pieces, and it's been wonderful every time. I usually bake for only 57-58 minutes, at just a notch under 350 degrees. (My oven runs a little hot)
