Sweet and Sour Meatloaf

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2004
Maybe I just don't like my meatloaf sweet, but I wasn't really impressed. Sorry!

Pumpkin Bread II

Great recipe! Use only 2 cups of sugar, though - 3 cups is way too sweet. Moist, sweet, flavorful, and just mmmm-mmmmm.

Sausage Smothered in Red Cabbage

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2004
Very good - if you like slavick food, then you'll love this! I used lowfat keilbasa and I think it would have been too fatty with regular. I also served it with mashed potatoes and it was the perfect combination.

New England Clam Chowder II

Fantastic! I didn't use the extra half cup of cream - it is plenty rich and wonderful as is. Wow - soooooo good!

Vikki's Red Bean Sausage

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2004
Fairly good, but seemed to be missing something and I can't figure out what. Hubby liked it okay...

Easy Biscuit Mixture

Good, although too sweet. I think that if you omit the sugar you have a 5 star recipe. Thanks!

Old Fashioned Coconut Cream Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2004
Even after exchanging some of the flour for cornstarch (1/4 cup), the texture was still flour-y and unappealing. I prefer a creamier, lighter texture.

Amish Slaw

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2004
Very good, HOWEVER, the vinegar is sooooo strong. I didn't know if it was just me, but my family also told me it was too vinegar-y. I'll try it one more time with half the vinegar. I hope that works because the taste is great!

Easy Oatmeal Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2004
Good texture, though definitely needs spices. I used whole wheat flour, and added cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. My daughter liked them that way.

Okay. I was expecting something much for more flavorful, actually.

Broccoli and Ramen Noodle Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2004
Pretty yummy but a bit oily for me. I guess the ramen noodles have enough fat without adding anymore. Good, though!

Chicken Andouille Gumbo

A good springboard recipe that you can modify to your tastes (I added onion, for instance). Good on it's own too.

Best Ever Blueberry Cobbler

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2004
Pretty good, but I've had better. What I did like, though, was the buttery-ness.

Oatmeal Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2004
Good, but a little too soft - they fell apart too easily (even though they were thoroughly cooked). If I make them again I'll eliminate the water. Hubby and kids thought they were good enough but didn't say they were great and weren't clamoring for more (like they were with the whole wheat sugar cookies I recently made from this site).

Absolutely Fabulous Greek/House Dressing

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2004
Pretty good, but it needs something... Maybe I'll add a pinch of sugar and see if that does it. Hubby liked it.

Whole Wheat Honey Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2004
Very good, although I will probably lower the salt to just 1 tsp. I also added wheat germ and flax seed meal to up the fiber and nutritional content. My kids liked this better than the recipe I've been making for the last year so I guess this will be the new family bread recipe! **NOTE TO THOSE WHO SAY IT DIDN'T RISE - make sure a)that your water isn't too warm or it'll kill the yeast, b) that your yeast is good (you can test it by adding a pinch of yeast to some slightly warm water and if it "grows" and foams up then your yeast is good, and c) that your salt doesn't come into contact directly with your yeast or the salt will kill the yeast.

Soft Whole Wheat Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2004
Very good. I didn't have apple pie spice so I just added a dash each of nutmeg, mace, and allspice and a big splash of cinnamon. These were a big hit with my 4 year old. Thank you for a great recipe! Oh, I used real butter instead of shortening (we don't use trans fats).

Easy White Chili

Okay. Not bursting with flavor, although my guests liked it more than I did. It just seems to lack oomph...maybe some green Tabasco sauce would perk it up a bit?

Blueberry Crumb Bars

Reviewed: May 30, 2004
A tad blander than I would have liked, but maybe because I didn't add any cinnamon. Otherwise a great way to use blueberries (a great source of antioxidants!). Note: I used frozen blueberries with no problems, and replaced half the flour with whole wheat flour.
