Soft Christmas Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2007
I made these cookies according to the recipe, except that I substituted butter in place of the margarine, and I baked them at 350 degrees. Very good cookie. To keep them soft, take them out of the oven immediately when you see the first tinge of brown around the edges, and roll them a little on the thick side - 1/4" is good.

Classic Bran Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2007
FANTASTIC! These are the best bran muffins ever! I used All Bran cereal, applesauce instead of oil, and egg whites instead of one whole egg. Absolutely delicious. This goes on my all-time favorites list.

Nutty Whole Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2007
EXCELLENT! This bread worked great in my bread machine. I used bread flour instead of AP flour, and put the liquids, salt and yogurt into the pan first, then added the dry ingredients. The dough was very stiff at first and I added about 1/4 c. of water, (one tablespoon at a time) to get the right slightly sticky consistency. Because bread dough is very sensitive to the temperature and moisture content of the air in the house at the time, it may be necessary to add either water or flour to get the right consistency. The dough should gather up into a ball, but should still be a little sticky. This made a large 2-lb size loaf. It is just the right texture - soft, but not too soft. Great toasted! Thanks for the recipe Rosadene!

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies I

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2007
Awesome cookies! These are the perfect oatmeal chocolate chip cookie - Wonderful flavor and texture. I usually follow the recipe exactly the first time, but this time I did make the following changes: (1) used 1/2 c. shortening and 1/2 c. butter, (2) used 1 c. AP flour and 1/2 c. WW flour, and (3) used 1-1/2 c. chocolate chips and 1/2 c.chopped walnuts. Next time I will add a tsp. of vanilla. I also tried baking at 350 and 375 degrees. Baking at 350 degrees resulted in a thicker, chewier cookie which I prefer. This is a keeper!

Oatmeal Applesauce Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2007
This bread was just ok. It does not work very well for sandwiches. I had to add a lot of flour and I thought the cinnamon gave it a weird taste. I won't be making this again.

These made a big hit. They taste really great, but they do contain quite a bit of alcohol. It would be easy to overdo it.

Baked Beans III

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2007
This is really good for such a simple recipe. I did add one extra 28 oz. can of Bush's Baked Beans with brown sugar and bacon and 1 heaping tsp. dry mustard as suggested by other reviewers. Outstanding results! I served this with Scott Hibbs Amazing Whiskey Grilled Ribs from this site, a green salad, and Lemon Glazed Cake, also from this site. Fantastic meal!

Texas Sheet Cake II

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2007
This is the exact recipe I used to make years ago. I am so glad I found it again. I remember that I sometimes added cinnamon, so I added 1 tsp. This was very good, but I think just a hint of cinnamon would be better. Next time I make this I will add 1/2 tsp.of cinnamon. Thank you for submitting this great recipe Diane.

Mac's Shoe-Fly Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2007
I was out of bread flour so I used AP flour + 1 Tbsp. vital wheat glucose. I also proofed the yeast before adding it in. Otherwise I followed the recipe exactly. The result was tender and moist, but the flavor seemed a little off. If I make this again I will substitute some whole wheat or rye flour.
