Fresh Broccoli Salad

Reviewed: May 22, 2004
I'm here in China, so I'm always looking for recipes that have the ingredients I can get to here. This recipe was great! I couldn't find regular raisins, so I used the sweet and spicy ones here, and I think the peppery taste really added a nice kick.

I used this recipe with Splenda as well, and it tasted best when the substituting only half of the sugar with Splenda.

Green Beans with Bread Crumbs

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2005
I think it might be better if after all the ingredients are tossed together, it's baked for a few minutes in the oven.

Chicken Pot Pie VIII

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2005
the crust is the best part, and it's very easy to make. i omitted the mushrooms and celery since i didn't have any on hand, and it was still very delicious.

Friday Night Veggie Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2005
pretty easy to make. i didn't have tomato sauce, so i used 1/3 cup of tomato paste. i also used golden onion soup mix instead of regular mix and added a few beef bullion cubes. would be great with chunks of beef for to put the "beef" in this vegetable beef tasting soup.

Fresh Southern Peach Cobbler

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2005
This was an easy and tasty recipe. The only changes I made was reducing the amount of sugar in both the filling and the topping. I omitted the sugar on top as well but sprinkled just a dash of cinnamon on top. I didn't have nutmeg, so I used a cinnamon blend (like a pumpkin pie spice). YUMMY! If you're not a brown sugar fan, this can easily be made with just the white sugar, try 1/3 cup of white sugar for each part.

Mom's Good Cinnamon Rolls

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2005
while the dough of this recipe is good (rises well, light), the essential part, sugar and cinnamon, are not enough. if you want the normal cinnamon buns that are sticky sweet, you'll need to increase the sugar plus add a drizzle frosting after baking. if you want something more bready with a hint of cinnamon and sugar, don't make any changes.

Fresh Pear Cake

the spices tend to drown out the flavor of the pears. this recipe would be better with apples.

Burger or Hot Dog Buns

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2005
this is a good recipe as far as bread goes. it tastes great! however, it's a little sweet and dense for hotdogs. thanks for the previous recommendations to let it rise longer. i let mine rise 2 hours. also, i halfed the recipe like another cook and made 8 hotdog buns like the recipe suggested instead of 6, but i think they'd be better bigger. this is a great bread stick recipe- just brush with garlic butter or dip in cheese sauce.

Queijadas

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2005
this is very easy to make. i didn't have any problems removing the 'cakes'. i did a quick wipe with shortening inside the muffin tins. tried 3 with cupcake liners; don't recommend using those! i followed the suggestion of cutting down the sugar by 1/2, and they were still sweet enough for me, and i have a crazy sweet tooth. topped some with coconut as recipe suggested: YUM! sprinkled one with cinnamon: pretty good.

great cookie! they came out BEAUTIFULLY! what a neat idea to add the pudding. I'm not sure what the pudding does; I couldn't taste it. I liked that they weren't super sweet.

Chocolate Meringue Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2005
nice and easy, even though i had to hand beat the eggs (whew!). the second batch, i added coconut and only put a chip on top. Next time, i'll reduce the sugar because the coconut made it a little too sweet. thanks for the recipe! thanks for the earlier tip about using foil. the meringues were easy to peel off, and the clean up was minimal!

Caramel Shortbread

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2005
thanks to the person who suggested brown sugar instead of white. i cooked the shortbread a little too long by accident, but it turned out great because instead of twix bars, they're like skor bars (the cookie part is crunchy, not the caramel). didn't have corn or golden syrup, so i substituted honey for it. worked well. thanks for the recipe!
