Thirty Minute Yellow Cake

Reviewed: May 19, 2015
The flavor of this cake gets five stars. But unfortunately it disintegrates at the slightest touch. I made this cake to use in a trifle. I followed the recipe exactly, no changes whatsoever. The texture is nice, and the flavor is great. But unless you're planning on eating it straight from the pan with a spoon, don't bother making it. It would be useful for cake pops, which require crumbled cake, but not suitable for anything else. After attempting to cut the cake for the trifle, I ended up with a few cubes and lots and lots of crumbs.

Cereal Treats II

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2015
I made these egg shaped for Easter, using Cocoa Pebbles. They were amazing! I will make these over and over, experimenting with different cereals. Cocoa Pebbles were definitely a hit. I stored them in the fridge, but they do taste better at room temperature.

Doughnut Bread Pudding

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2015
It was good, but just didn't really impress me. It's not that it didn't taste good, it just wasn't anything special. It needs *something*, I just haven't figured out what that is.

Shrimp Linguine

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2015
Awesome! Make sure you put plenty of salt and pepper in it, otherwise it's rather bland. But with a good amount of salt and pepper..... Yum! Not to mention very quick and easy. Thank you for sharing this recipe! I'm glad I picked it.

Amazing Chocolate Quinoa Cake!

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2015
This cake is amazing! I used semi sweet chocolate chips. It does taste like dark chocolate. I think next time I'm going to increase the sugar a bit and use milk chocolate chips (or even white) instead. That is not because the cake is not good, but simply because I personally prefer it a bit sweeter. It tastes just like a piece of good dark chocolate. It is definitely very crumbly, but as long as you're prepared for that, it's not an issue. :)

Caramel Popcorn

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2015
This is by far the best caramel popcorn ever! It is not sticky whatsoever, so the kiddos can eat it in front of the tv for "movie night", no worries there. It is crunchy, but in a crumbly way, not the "you're about to lose a tooth" way. The flavor is amazing. I only made one tiny change, I reduced the salt, I only used a pinch of salt, simply because I don't like caramel salty. Other than that, I followed the recipe to a T. It makes a very large amount.

Cinnamon Bun Icing

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2015
My quest for the perfect cinnamon bun icing has come to an end. This is amazing! It definitely reminded me of Cinnabon icing. I made half of the recipe, and still had a lot left over. The only change I made was using butter instead of margarine. I used the leftover icing as a "dip" for monkey bread, and it was delicious! Thank you so much for sharing this recipe!

Cream Wafers

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2014
Wow!These simply blew me away. I made them for Christmas today, and at first I didn't have high expectations, I thought they would be horribly bland. I resisted the urge to make some changes to the recipe, and was rewarded with delicate, delicious little cookies. Only problem, I wish I had made two batches. Big hit with the kids too. I used a pastry bag for the filling and the cookies were done in no time at all.

I've been making these for years, they are always a huge hit, and at parties and get togethers they disappear rapidly. Definitely a favorite.

A Simply Perfect Roast Turkey

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2014
This was my first time not using turkey bags. It was the best turkey ever! Perfectly golden brown and crunchy skin, perfectly moist and juicy meat, exceptional flavor, just all around perfect and delicious. I will never make turkey any other way again, ever. The only thing I skipped was the stuffing. I don't like cooking stuffing inside the turkey.

Raspberry Lemon Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2014
These are really good. I didn't have any lemon zest, but I did use lemon extract. The lemon flavor was not very strong, probably because of the missing zest. I used fresh raspberries that I froze first. Due to the altitude here I added one whole egg and 2 tbs flour, and baked them at 425. The muffins came out very moist and fluffy, with great flavor. I will definitely make them again. I gave four stars because they are great, but not "blow me away great".

Scrumptious Strawberry Shortcake

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2014
Thank you thank you thank you! I've been searching for the perfect Strawberry Shortcake recipe for years, and I've finally found it! My kids agree, the search is over. Complete perfection. I used a round biscuit cutter so they would all be the same size. Due to the altitude here I had to make a couple adjustments to the amounts. I reduced the baking powder to 3 3/4 tsp, added 3 tbs of cream, and then increased the oven temperature to 375. I did not change anything else. The biscuits are buttery with just the right amount of sweetness. We all agreed that they're almost like cookies in flavor. They are also extremely filling. One of those is a meal. Make sure you use home made whipped cream for this, the spray can stuff won't hold up. Thank you so much for sharing this!

Seared Steaks with Caramelized Onions and Gorgonzola

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2014
I was looking for a recipe for caramelized onions to put on burgers, and this looked good, so I tried it. I made ONLY the onions, not the steak part. The onions were quick, easy, and delicious. The leftovers are still wonderful warmed up the next day. And these onions make for some killer burgers. I followed the recipe exactly, no changes.

High Altitude Deep Dish Brownies

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2014
I live in Colorado Springs, but I've never had a problem with regular recipes. So, I thought I'd give this a try and see if there's a difference. Followed the recipe exactly, and I used the optional chocolate chips (although a bit less). I baked them for 40 minutes, and they looked very much done. But on the inside the brownies are either super fudgy, or simply undercooked. I'm not sure. The flavor is great, they really do taste good, but I am not a fan of the texture. It's gritty. My son took one bite and asked me to make "regular brownies" again, meaning the ones I usually make. I will stick with my usual ones, sorry.

Special Grapes

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2014
This is amazing and addictive! The only change I made was using real sugar instead of the substitute. It took a lot of self control not to sit down with a spoon and just chow down on the cream. It was such a wonderful combination with the grapes too, so refreshing. I have a lot of the cream leftover, I didn't have enough grapes for that much. I also tried some sprinkled with Oreo crumbs (no grapes), delicious! I think this cream is very versatile, I can see it working beautifully with strawberries, or pretty much any other fruit. I think it will be great for non-fruit things too. It is *that* good. Thank you so much for sharing!!

Three Packet Slow Cooker Roast

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2014
This was amazing! I had a six pound bottom round roast, I marinated it overnight, and I was a bit worried the flavor of the marinade would mess up the end result, but it was absolutely delicious. I doubled everything, due to the size of the roast. The leftovers were even better the next day, warmed up in the oven in foil packets. The kids went nuts over it. I will make this again. No changes. Awesome as is.

Chef John's Lemon Bars

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2014
These were really good. The crust wasn't crumbly, but rather soft and buttery, which made it nice and easy to press into the bottom of the pan. I didn't need to use water on my fingers either. I did not get that white crust on top of the custard, it turned light golden brown. Not ugly, but not like in the picture or description either. The only thing I'll change next time is cut back on the sugar. The bars were awfully sweet. I didn't grease the pan, I used non stick aluminum foil. The bottom of the bars didn't stick, so all I had to do was carefully separate the edges from the foil. Very easy.

Apple Pie Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2014
I really liked these. No, they don't taste like apple pie, but they are still delicious. I loved the texture of the apple pieces in the muffin. I found the sweetness to be just right. I only changed one thing, and that was using half brown sugar and half white in the batter, since I ran out of brown sugar. I did use brown sugar for the topping. The topping did get quite crunchy, which I think is a nice contrast to the moist, soft bottom part. I do have to say, filling the muffin cups all the way to the top is not a good idea. They did rise over the sides. I didn't have any problems getting them out in one piece though, as some other comments said. They came right out. So, all in all, I think they are fine the way they are, no changes necessary.

Caramel Grapes

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2014
Very good! I liked it, my kids were split on their verdict, one liked it, one didn't. It had a slightly gritty texture, I'm not sure if it was the powdered sugar, or the brown sugar. I also tried it before putting the brown sugar/butter mix in, and it tasted really good with out those two things. It tasted really refreshing that way, which makes this a very nicely versatile dessert or snack.
