I am a 44yr old physically challenged divorcee of 14 yrs. I took home ec in school, but that's all I knew about cooking. When I got married at the age of 21 I taught myself to cook & realized I LOVE IT!!! I take recipes & change them to make them my own. I am in the process of writing & publishing my 1st cookbook! I am so excited & I hope people love my recipes as much as my friends & family do!
My favorite things to cook
I love country style comfort food as well as Italian food. I also like making easy desserts. Just starting to get into baking because Ive NEVER been 1 to measure anything, until I started writing my cookbook "Aunt Kristie's Creations" coming out soon I hope!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving & Christmas are our big family cooking traditions where everybody gets together & brings their specialties. For Thanksgiving mine are green bean casserole, chili baked beans, baked 5 mac & cheese, dressing, oyster dressing, butterscotch spice cake delight (my own creation) & Christmas mine are butterscotch haystack, peppermint bark, microwave pb fudge & choc fudge, white trash, snowflake mix, cookie dough balls, brownie w/ choc. mint frosting
My cooking triumphs
The satisfaction I feel when I see the smiles on my friends & familys faces when they eat my cooking & the way my heart feel when I get the compliments or when I get asked for 1 of my recipes. The accomplishment I feel as a physically challenged woman when I look at a dinner I cooked for 15 people w/ very little assistance & all the women called the next day for all the recipes! That's when I started thinking about writing a cookbook.
My cooking tragedies
When I had been married approx. 2 yrs. I invited my sister & her family over for supper. I made homemade mashed potatoes (w/ a hand emersion blender) We sit down to eat & my brother in law who I love dearly & wanted to impress went to serve himself some potatoes. They were like vanilla pudding!!! I was sooo embarrassed I wanted to cry!!! He tasted them & said they tasted great & that they tasted better than my sisters they were just a strange consistency lol. That was in 1994 & to this day everytime mashed potatoes comes up he will never let me live that down!!! We laugh about it though.
