Thank you MOSHASMAMA & Grandma Ople! I have cooked dinners from allrecipes monthly for years, but have only written a handful of reviews; this recipe is fabulous. My mom has an amazing recipe for a apple pie but I couldn't find it & I was daunted to make bake one (it's kind of a lot of work to prep the apples) but this was so worth it! My family picked apples at an orchard last week & the apples were taunting me to make pie - this recipe makes me feel like a Domestic Goddess for making a literal farm to table dessert (we live in NYC).I LOVE how the sauce is poured over the lattice top, it carmalizes on the crust & is FABULOUS. My husband & I were fighting over the crust from the top & that never happens. When making it I didn't have the talent or time to weave the lattice top, I just laid 4 slices of crust down, then laid 5 on top of those, cross-ways. I had to add 1t cinammon (props to my mom) & per other reviewers I added 1t vanilla, a splash of lemon juice & a good pinch of salt...(it's great in salted caramel) the amount of sauce to apples was wonderful. I had a mix of apples on hand & did 5 cups sliced, baked as directed. THANK YOU!
