I used the butt as others mentioned. I've used this cut for other recipes in slow cooker and it works well. It is definately cheaper than tender loin and any flavor difference is minimal. The purpose of the root beer I'm not sure. I've done other pulled pork dishes that were just as good, thus the reason for 4 stars. It is good, but nothing special to other ways of preparing pulled pork. Much of the flavor of this recipe depends on the sauce you choose. I did add a lot of fresh garlic, as always. Made sliders with Amish Cole Slaw. It was a hit, but so was the way I've always prepared. Again, no differing value by adding root beer. The slow cooking is what makes it "melt in your mouth".
