May 2011 my sister Dottie moved in here with me. She took early retirement from her job in NY; moved away from her 2 grown daughters, a son-in-law and 12 year-old grandson to come out here to help me finacially and physically. She loves to cook (at does it well) and clean--what more could I… MORE

About this Cook
I've been on disability since 1991; my sister and I moved to Florida in 2013 and are loving every minute of it. We live in a 55+ community and are soooo busy with everything going on here. Met tons of people and are very happy.
My favorite things to cook
Casseroles; desserts; vegetables; soups
My favorite family cooking traditions
Shepherd's Pie; Cheesecake; Goo Goos (leftover spaghetti, sliced hot dogs, onions, tomato sauce)
My cooking triumphs
Nobody has died from my cooking, so I guess that's a triumph.
My cooking tragedies
A spice cake that took a gazzilion spices. Made it according to the recipe, never varied from it. Had to bake it for 40 minutes longer than called for and when I turned it over to get it out of the pan, it slithered all over the counter. Never really set. Had to throw the whole thing out. Waaaaaa

Broccoli, Rice, Cheese, and Chicken Casserole
Loved this recipe. Was a little soupy, so I added some bread crumbs on top and broiled it. Next time I am sauteing the onions first. They were too raw-tasting for me. But I definitely will make this again.

Beef Barley Vegetable Soup
If was delicious. I only would do 2 things different next time. Less meat, more barley. I hardly saw the barley, and I enjoy more in a barley soup. But the flavor was great!!!!

The Best Banana Bread
I used half regular and half brown sugar; added 1 tsp. vanilla; used 4 over-ripe bananas and sprinkled regular sugar on top for a nice crust. It was very moist and delicious. I will certainly use this recipe again.
