I cook mostly for family gatherings, I learned when I was about thirteen while my mother was going back to school and still wish I'd learned more from her before she passed. I love finding new recipes to try from allrecipes!
My favorite family cooking traditions
We make a really great Sally Lunn bread for the holidays and some yummy wassail.
My cooking tragedies
When I was about 22 I didn't yet realize the difference in cooking rum and regular rum and made a rum cake with Bacardi 151... couldn't figure out why it tasted so strongly of rum. It was a learning experience. Obviously I am not a big drinker or I might have been more aware.

New Duchess Spice Cake with Maple Buttercream Frosting
I have made this three times for my dad's birthday now and each time everyone loves it. I had family who usually refuse to eat cake asking me to make this for their birthdays now. I usually double the spices because my dad really likes things full of flavor. I've also done a regular butter cream frosting with the spices added in and it also tasted great.
