Beer Margaritas

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2008
Excellent! I'm drinking one right now! I used a high end tequila, but I'd like to try it with a less expensive brand to see if it is just as good!

Best of the Best Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2008
These didn't turn out well for me at all. The batter seemed too thin and they didn't rise well. The flavor was ok, but I wouldn't make them again. I made them along with the Blueberry Cream Muffins for a side by side comparison and the Blueberry Cream Muffins were much better.

Blueberry Cream Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2008
I made several different blueberry muffin recipes and these were our favorite, hands down! I threw some wild raspberries in with the blueberries, but other than that followed the recipe exactly. They are so delicious. Will make these again and again.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2008
These cookies are delicious and so moist and chewy. I followed all of the ingredients and measurements, but I couldn't bring myself to melt the butter (it just goes against everything I know about making cookies!), so I only softened it. I will certainly make these again! UPDATE: Curiousity got the better of me and I finally made them as the recipe states, with melted butter. I honestly didn't notice much difference except that the dough needed to chill longer. Either way, they are delicious!

Grill Dough

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2008
We made two batches of this and used one for personal sized pizzas and the other for breadsticks. I made a simple, traditional pizza sauce and let everyone add their own favorite toppings. Kids and adults loved it!! A really fun twist on a backyard bbq! One note - the second time we made these I used Rapid Rise yeast. It did not taste as good as when I used regular active dry yeast.

Kool-Aid Sherbet

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2008
I wanted so badly to like this because my daughter and I had such a good time making it together. Choosing a flavor, mixing and measuring the ingredients and waiting for it to freeze were lots of fun, but the flavor was.....I don't want to be unkind so I'll just say it was disappointing. So much so that we discarded it after one spoonful each. I'm still glad we made it because I love to have my daughter help in the kitchen and kids learn just as much from recipe failures as they do from successes. So five stars for fun, one star for flavor.

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2008
These muffins smelled so good while they were baking and looked so beautiful when I took them out of the oven that I had really high hopes for them. I expected them to taste like the wonderful muffins I used to get from the local bakery before it closed. These weren't bad, but the only flavor they have comes from the blueberries. The batter portion is very bland. The topping had a nice flavor and made enough for more than one batch.

Quick and Easy Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2008
I have tried dozens of different alfredo recipes and this is hands down the best. I was skeptical about getting a smooth sauce because that's always been my problem, but I followed the instructions exactly and it came out velvety smooth and didn't separate at all. Next time I think I will try adding fresh garlic instead of the garlic powder for a more bold flavor, but I will definitely make this again!!

Chicken Satay

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2008
We loved this chicken!! I cut the chicken into strips instead of cubes and threaded it onto the skewers in the traditional satay fashion. It was fabulous. I did add a little extra peanut butter, but other than that I followed the recipe. We had this with a packaged Thai noodle dish, but I think next time I will make extra marinade to make my own Thai noodles. My family can't wait to have this again!!

Broiled Tilapia Parmesan

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2008
Really good and really fast. Everyone in my house liked this recipe. I used a foil lined sheet pan to broil the fish which I wouldn't recommend because you end up with slightly soggy fish. Next time I will use a broiler pan to drain away excess liquid.

Ten Clove Garlic Marinade

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2008
Fantastic!! I marinated porterhouse steaks for a day and a half and then my husband grilled them over hickory charcoal. They tasted like something you would expect from an upscale steak house. I wouldn't recommend changing this recipe a bit, it's wonderful exactly as is. We can't wait to try this on chicken!

Grilled Marinated Shrimp

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2008
Absolutely delicious!! I wouldn't change a thing. For those worried about wasting tomato paste, you can do what I do and freeze it in tablespoon amounts. Drop tablespoons full on a waxed paper lined cookie sheet and freeze for a few hours. After that, transfer them to a freezer bag. You can take out a tablespoon or two at time as needed to add to sauces or marinades. The dollops thaw in just a few minutes.

Sylvia's Ribs

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2008
This is THE recipe for spareribs!! If you are looking for tender, falling off the bone ribs, look no further. We loved everything about these ribs. The sauce was fantastic. I made four pounds of spareribs and still had enough sauce left over for the next time I make them. Sylvia, you made me a believer about boiling the ribs first. Thanks for the great recipe!!

Summer Feta Burger with Gourmet Cheese Spread

Reviewed: May 12, 2008
My husband and I were so excited to try these. We love burgers and thought it would be fun to try something new. I'm sorry to say these were not what we were hoping for. They weren't bad, just not great (the consensus was the same from all six people who tried them). I would try them again with some serious tweaking. The feta was good, but the overall flavor didn't seem right. I think it would be better to use plain, ground pork instead of seasoned pork sausage. The spread was good, but better on tortilla chips than the burger.

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: May 8, 2008
Fantastic recipe!! Everyone in my house loved it. The only change I made was to add 1/2 cup red wine in place of the water. Other than that I followed the recipe exactly. I'm sure I'll make this again and again.

Rickyrootbeer

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2008
These are so much fun to make! Learn from my mistake, though, and keep some paper towel handy to clean up the rootbeer that shoots out of the tumbler when you drop the shotglass in. They really do taste like rootbeer floats. Perfect for summer parties!

My Amish Friend's Caramel Corn

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2007
This is the most delicious caramel corn I have had in years. Tastes just like the kind we used to get from the candy counter when I was a kid. It was super simple to make, I had no problems with the caramel at all. Five minutes was perfect. I used three bags of microwave popcorn and each piece is coated nicely. The only substitution I made was to use pancake syrup in place of corn syrup because I was out (pancake syrup is basically corn syrup with maple flavor added). It didn't add any maple taste to the final product though I wouldn't have minded if it had. I packaged this in small bags for my kids to give as gifts to their friends in school and I managed to get 8 generously portioned bags from one batch! Really inexpensive gifts considering the few dollars it took to make the whole batch. I guarantee this will become a new tradition at our house!

Nippy Cheese

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2007
I made a sample batch of this spread to decide if I wanted to serve it at an upcoming party. It was even better than I expected! I did leave out the sweet pickle relish and substituted onion powder for the chopped onion because I wanted a creamy spread without chunks. It is really delicious and will definitely be served at my party!!

Cream Filled Cupcakes

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2006
Great dessert for our Father's Day barbeque! The cupcake portion of the recipe is so easy to make and tastes so much better than boxed mixes. It doesn't take any longer to make than the boxed mixes either, so try it. As for the reviewers that thought it was too much work to put the filling inside, it's actually very little work and quite a bit of fun. All you need is a pastry bag and tip. Each cupcake takes about 10 seconds to fill. I made my cupcakes in the pan without wrappers, filled them after they were cool, then arranged a dozen or so to a platter and drizzled them with chocolate ganache. They looked surprisingly elegant for cupcakes. Everyone loved them and ate seconds and thirds. I can't wait to try the same cupcake recipe with different fillings. UPDATE: I have made these cupcakes dozens of times since my first review because they are always requested. I like to ice them with Satiny Chocolate Glaze. I have also filled them with chocolate cream cheese frosting, nutella, and whipped peanut butter frosting. I like to fill them from the top and then spoon the glaze on. After the glaze is set, I pipe a small flower in the center of each cupcake with whatever filling I used.
