Southern Style Praline Sweet Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2013
My mother-in-law gave me this recipe several years ago and it is a family favorite. However, over the years we made a few changes that I think put it over the top... We add to the potato mixture, cinnamon and rum. The rum is what really makes it rich. I also mix all of the dry topping together, spread it on top of the potatoes and then drizzle with melted butter. Seems easier to me. This dish is also great because I can prepare it the day before and then bake it the day I need it.

My Country Style Steak

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2011
My family really enjoyed this. I followed the recipe except instead of adding water I used a can of low sodium chicken broth. Tasted great. Next time I will add mushrooms and fresh onions too.

Suzy's Mashed Red Potatoes

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2011
These were wonderful and very easy to make. Instead of putting the cooked potatoes in a separate bowl, I always use a large pot strainer and drain all the water out of the pan that I cooked them in. I set it back on the burner that I was cooking on (turned off) and it keeps the potatoes warm and heats the added ingrediants. Thanks for a great recipe.

I agree with most of the recent reviewers...this recipe lacked flavor and was too watery.

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2011
Awesome roast! I coated the roast with emerils steak rub and added the following to the recipe at the beginning: fresh sliced mushrooms, baby carrots, 3/4 c red wine, 1/2 sliced onion, 3 tablespoons flour, and I used 2 cans of mushroom and roasted garlic soup instead of just plain mushroom. Cooked everything on low for 9 hours. I served it with premade diners choice country style mashed potatoes that you just heat in the microwave for a quick and easy meal. VERY GOOD! My family loved it.

Baked Pork Chops I

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2011
This was excellent! My kids gobbled it up and asked for seconds. I love the wine flavor...next time I might pull back on the milk and add a little more wine. Also I agree with others that the time may be a bit off... my chops were boneless and about a 1/2 inch thick. I fried on high heat until crispy (prob only 2 mins on ea side not 5 as the recipe states). Then I baked them for 30mins w/o sauce and then 30mins with sauce. They were just perfect for us...tender, moist, and definitely not over cooked.

Great low fat alternative way to make "butter beans". However, I still love the original way more.

This was good. Not too sweet. I had trouble finding frozen cranberry juice concentrate so I had to use cran-raspberry.

Caesar Salad Supreme

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2009
Great recipe. Easy to make. I use about a teaspoon of Anchovy paste instead of messing with chopping fillets. You can add more paste if you desire. I also cheat and buy the croutons. Maybe one day when I have time I will make my own. The dressing is fantastic and I always have people ask me for the recipe.

Clam Sauce with Linguine

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2008
After reading this recipe the basics of it sounded good but I wanted to spice it up a bit. I added some crushed red pepper flakes, capers, and I threw in some jumbo lump crab and raw shrimp at the end. The flavor was very good before I added the pasta to the pan. Once I added the pasta, I felt that there was not enough sauce for the 1 pound of pasta that the recipe calls for. So I felt like it was a little dry and some of the flavor was lost. I will make this again but only use 8oz of pasta instead of 16oz.

Holiday Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2007
EXCELLENT! - I should have rated/reviewed this recipe about a year ago as I have served this now several times and always get lots of compliments. The only change I make is to buy a rotisery chicken and shred it (vs. cubed chicken breasts). It's a lot easier than cutting up chicken and cooking it and I personally prefer the consistancy of shredded chicken in chicken salad. I also serve it on croissants with a little green leaf or bib lettuce for added crunch and color.
