About this Cook
While I've returned to my home town of Philadelphia, PA, I've lived in the mid-west, southern USA and traveled extensively throughout North America, Europe and the Middle East.
My favorite things to cook
Pasta!! The combination of ingredients is endless and limited only by your imagination. I also love combining fresh fruits and vegies into salads.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas wouldn't be the same without cookies. I usually bake dozens, crowned by our family recipe for Apricot Kolachy.
My cooking triumphs
Taking my standard recipes that my family loves and making them lighter and heathlier. It takes quite sometime to get a respectful substitution (people who say you can't taste the difference may not be as discriminating) but you can make a tasty, lower fat version and still have dishes you love.
My cooking tragedies
A key lime pie I forgot to cook. Adding 2 qts of water to a dish that called for 2 cups. I cooked it for almost 2 hours and it never reduced :)

I was raised to think that you had to have the prepared biscuit mix to make dumplings. So not true. These were easy and hands down 100% better than those made with the mix. I added parsley and some herbs de provence as I made them with chicken and they were delicious. Great texture. Gone forever is the premade mix!

A Simply Perfect Roast Turkey
Thank God some people are not afraid to stuff a turkey ! This is the simplest, tried and true receipe I've made for years and as long as you don't overcook it it comes out moist and beautifully browned. I do rub the turkey with butter or put butter under the skin.

Caribbean Sweet Potato Salad
The recipie was delicious as is but I tried a variation to suit my taste. Omitted the corn but added chunks of pineapple and cashews for peanuts. Cooked potatoes the night before but mixed in dressing right before the barbecue and added nuts at the last minute. Play around with the seasoning a bit (I added a spritz of Siracha to the dressing to kick it up). I would think with the pineapple shredded coconut might be a nice addition as well.
