Best Ever Pie Crust

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2006
Love this crust and really have used it exclusively lately but I change 2 things: 1) I use half butter half shortening and 2) I do add a little sugar, several TBSPs but that's just personal preference

Caramel Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2006
I loved this! Sweet but I suppose that's how pecan pie usually is. I might try to blend this recipe with the normal cornsyrup approach to see if I can achieve perfection. If you do this with the Best Ever Pie Crust (I use half butter and half shortening and sugar in the crust also) it will be outstanding!

Cornbread Stuffing Southern Style

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2006
pretty good but 1) cornbread makes it quite sweet, probably too sweet for my taste for stuffing and 2) in the end it's pretty mushy so maybe dried out cornbread would work much better I think. Also I only did a little chili powder but not much because kids were eating too

Easy Cheesy Cream of Broccoli Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2005
Just searching for a broccoli soup recipe- I am sorry to be a party pooper but when I read a recipe that has a frozen vegetable, canned cream soup and processed cheese as main ingredients, I can only cringe. You lose absolutely no time by substituting the real things- fresh broccoli, premade chicken stock, fresh cream if you must, and real cheese. And nutritionally you are 200% better off!

Banana Cream Pie I

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2005
I don't know. This didn't really thrill me. Making the pudding from scratch was awesome, the warm left over pudding got devoured by myself and my 5 year old son, and it tasted so good that my expectations were very high. That part I will make again, alone, as a warm pudding dessert. After chilling though, the pie tasted only ok (maybe custard's not my thing?) and I think what really bothered me was the top, I mean custard just doesn't do well as a top, it sort of starts to dry out and get a little gooey and darker and tough even after just 15 minutes in the oven and a couple of hours in the fridge. I think what I really prefer on a banana cream pie is a meringue sort of top. That would have been a lot better. Or a whipped sort of light custard filling. I'll keep searching...

Honey Crunch Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2004
The filling is great (though I prefer more chopped nuts and less goo (if I may call it that)), the crunchy topping is excellent (I used maple syrup instead of honey and did not have bourbon)!, but the crust is a disaster!! It looked like playdo when raw, and it tasted like playdo when done. Make sure you use your own good pie crust recipe. I thought I would risk it because of all the good reviews but the crust was yucky and sort of ruined the rest of the exerience... :(

Easy Key Lime Pie I

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2004
This is NOT a keeper. Made it for Thanksgiving and it was disappointing. Love this website and it's almost always foolproof but this pie's filling was sort of gooey which is not how I think key lime pime should be. Looking back what can you expect when the ingredients call for a whole can of sweetened condensed milk?? The pie oozes a bit and it does not cut cleanly, which I don't like. The recipe on the bag of key limes was almost the same but I found this pie so-so. I will try one of the other recipes that use whipped egg whites and/or tartar or maybe take more of a cheesecake angle. This doesn't make the cut - would not be served in a good restaurant.

Soft Sugar Cookies IV

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2004
These are awesome!!! I expected them to run all the way to flat but they keep good height. This actually means that you can take a teaspoon and after rolling the dough in colored sugar or whatever (multi-colored all mixed together is fun)you can press the little doughball into a teaspoon and create an eggshape- they will look like multicolored oval half Easter eggs! :)

Buttermilk Pancakes II

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2004
Really great pancakes. A little eggy, yes, perhaps, but only very slightly. Next time I will try 2 eggs instead, more baking powder, and less baking soda (you can taste it a little, which I don't like).

No Bake Peanut Butter Pie

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2004
super pie! Oreo crust works well and we put some choc syrup on the bottom on one pie, and on the top on the other (messy though, the syrup doesn't get hard when frozen). The kids also put chocolate ice cream sprinkles on top. Very yummy, not overly heavy. Reduced calorie whipped topping worked just fine.

Grandma Minnie's Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2004
Fantastic cookies!! As soon as the dough was forming, I could tell this was exactly what I was looking for. Don't need to chill before rolling. Lovely pliable dough and not too sticky. First time I think I actually rolled something to 1/8 inch! PS I got those rubber bands that come in different thicknesses to go around the rolling pin to help you roll evenly and to the right thickness and they really do work. Only you can't roll out a really big piece of dough.
