MMMMM... Brownies

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2012
I was hoping for fudgey but instead I got cakey. The recipe itself is very simple and straightforward, I just didn't find it overly chocolatey. The kids loved them though.

Classic Bran Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2012
The best bran muffin recipe I've ever made. My only change was to leave out the raisins and add a well drained 1/2 cup of crushed pineapple. So good! I'll be making these on a regular basis.

Apple Breakfast Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2012
Excellent recipe! I shredded the apples before adding, used brown sugar instead of white and omitted the cloves since I didn't have any. I will definitely be making this again and again.

Lemon Pound Cake II

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2012
Too light to be called a pound cake. More like a Quarter Pound Cake. Nothing really spectacular about this recipe, it's just a regular cake mix lemon cake. Not sure why I expected more.

Brown Sugar Shortbread

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2011
This is the very best recipe for shortbread, exactly how my Mom made it. I make this every year for Christmas and am so grateful to Shirley for posting the recipe.

Banana Fruit Mini Loaves

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2011
Very tasty! I was a little bit worried about the lack of oil or butter but it came out perfectly. I did the single loaf at 60 minutes and it was very moist and flavorful. Made the recipe exactly as written. Thank you for recipe!

Oatmeal Date Bars

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2011
Fantastic! I made the recipe exactly as written and these were perfect. I have been searching for years to find a recipe just like my Mom's for date bars and this is the closest I've found. I ate the entire pan in 3 days. So good!

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2011
Perhaps my cocoa was "old" but I didn't find that these brownies had a lot of chocolate-y flavor. Also, they were probably, at the most, half an inch high.

Favorite Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2011
These cookies are about a 7 on the peanut buttery flavor scale. Very soft (I cooked them for 10 minutes) and light tasting. The boyfriend loved them, the kids were kind of on the fence.

Brian's Favorite Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2011
Excellent recipe for the crock pot! I made a few small changes. Omitted the onion, used 42 oz of diced tomatoes, added a 6 oz can of tomato paste and half a cup of red wine. Cooked on high for 3 1/2 hours. I live alone and had NO problem eating this for five nights straight. Nummy!

Hearty Split Pea Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2011
The flavor of this was excellent. The consistency, not so excellent. Made exactly as the recipe instructed, I ended up with a crock pot of yellow paste. It tasted great, but it was a bit disconcerting to be eating soup that resembled pudding.

Zesty Slow Cooker Chicken Barbecue

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2011
Unfortunately my sauce turned out to be quite watery and my chicken overcooked. It was still edible, just a little stringy. This was with a setting at high for 3 hours, remove chicken, shred and then return to crock pot for 1 hour on low. I'm starting to think my crock pot cooks at a higher temp than most.

Daria's Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2011
Excellent recipe! Changes I made: dredged the meat in flour, salt and pepper and browned. Used golden mushroom soup as it has a beef base. Omitted the canned mushrooms simply because the boyfriend doesn't like them. Subbed red wine for white. Cooked for 5 hours on low and then added 8 oz of sour cream, cooked an add'l hour. Everyone loved it and the boyfriend's 9 y.o. son had 2 plates!

It's Chili by George!!

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2011
I've eaten a lot of chili in my time and this is by far the very, very best. I wish I could give it more stars! I made two modifications. I substituted 2 - 14 ounce cans of diced tomatoes for the tomato juice and I added a 6 ounce can of tomato paste. I browned the beef beforehand and sauteed the onions. Put it all into the slow cooker on High and cooked it for five hours. And promptly ate two large bowls.

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2011
Excellent stew. I incorporated a few of the suggestions made by others but next time I think I'll follow the recipe exactly as written. Towards the last 30 minutes I mixed 1/4 c. flour and 1/4 c. cold water to make the gravy a bit thicker. I'll also only cook for 9 hours on low next time as my meat was a tad overcooked. But overall, FANTASTIC.

Meat-Lover's Slow Cooker Spaghetti Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2011
This is a really great recipe although I've decided I don't really like ground beef cooked in the slow cooker. Regardless, the flavor of this recipe is delicious and of course, it's much better the second day. I made it exactly as the recipe was written.

Spiced Applesauce Bread

This was a very nice recipe and probably would have been better had I remembered that I was out of CINNAMON. Aarrggh. Extremely moist and a very generous loaf.

Eggnog Fruit Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2009
This bread is definitely going to become a Christmas tradition. It is absolutely delicious. I prepared the recipe exactly as written except I omitted the raisins. I probably could have taken it out of the oven at 60 minutes but forgot about it until the timer went off at 70. It was a little dry on the outside but inside ... mmmm ..... Thank you for sharing this recipe!
