I always cooked when my sons were young, they are in their 30s now, but it was one dish oven meals, Hamburger Helper, Polish Saucage w/mash, and they still HATE cream of mushroom soup that I used way to much!! After my sons moved out my husband and I eat out, picked up, or had dinner delivered. I started cooking again in my mid-40s, after being diagnosed with the worst stage of Lupus. To help my body help itself I started cutting out processed and fast foods. I needed to know what was in my food down to the salt and pepper. At first it was a total pain, and expensive. But once I stocked up on spices, oils, good grains, and such it's actually less expensive and SO good!! I find that I enjoy the search for new recipes and the process of cooking the meal.
My favorite things to cook
Growing up with a Grandmother from Spain I love spicy foods. I love making salas, Spanish shrip dishes (Spanish Shrimp Cocktail is a family favorite), and spicy chicken dishes. I also love Italian, Chinese, and good 'ol southern cooking. I like to add an interesting fresh side dish to grilled chicken or fish, and different dressings for salads that you can't get in a bottle.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Grandmother was from Spain and my Grandfather was from Irland ... So, we had Shepherd's Pie with chilis, or roast pork w/mash and veg. At Christmas we'd have Scotch Eggs, Spainish Pestinos, and the Texas tradition of Tamales on the table and as gifts.
