One day my family requested I make my grandfather's birthday cake since they would all be very busy that day.
Left alone in my grandmother's well stocked kitchen, I acquired the ingredients and set to work. I discovered, however, that making the cake was too much fun, and I had to do more. By evening, I'd made a cake, cupcakes, and cookies, and was ready to start on dinner.
Now I can't stop baking.
My favorite things to cook
Sweets! I'm very particular about what kind of sweets I like, but I mostly bake to feed other people anyway. I do really like cheesecake, and making it. Sugar cookies are also the best!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I've only recently started to bake and cook seriously by myself, but ever since I was little, my grandma would help us make sugar cookies at Christmas time. Mine sometimes came out silly looking or I used too many candy toppings, but they always tasted great, even when the Christmas tree "ornaments" were all Red Hots.
My cooking triumphs
Every time I bake, my family and friends are pleased with the results! I'm very proud of it.
My cooking tragedies
I haven't really mastered the art of the frying pan -- I can make a pretty good grilled sandwich, but cooking with oil and making anything big that takes up the whole pan baffles me. I once tried to make okonomiyaki without a recipe when I was in middle school. Needless to say it came out kind of terrifying.
