Grilled Portobello Mushrooms

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2012
These are perfect! We marinate them for about 4 hours (easy marinade to fix up and it takes about 5 minutes...if that) and then cook them on the grill. The first time I tasted these I thought I would fall onfo the floor in convulsive seizures of culinary delight (ok that is too dramatic but I am trying to convey...these are REALLY good!). I don't eat meat and had not had a "burger" (I do not like the frozen veggie burgers very much) in a long time. I ate these on hamburger buns with some habanero mustard (I like things hot) and my eyes rolled back in my head (ok..more drama I know LOL). Tonight just made them for the 2nd time and they were every bit as good as the first time we made them. Try these! You will not be sorry!!!

My Favorite Sesame Noodles

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2012
Made this once as is...it was fantastic. The next time I used whole wheat noodles. I also used fresh ginger, toasted white and black seeds and tossed them in and then added snow peas, broccoli, red and yellow pepper (chopped fine), ground bhut jolokia powder (I like things super hot) and chopped broccoli. Let it site for 24 hours and then ate it. It was great. I think it needs a little lime juice or balsamic vinegar but even without it....this recipe is great!

Cousin David's Slow Cooker Brisket

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2012
I wish I could not even give this one star. This was the worst crock pot recipe I have ever come across. Followed it to a T and had to throw it out and open the doors to air out the apartment as the smell was so vile and no, it did not burn. I am glad people have been successful with it but I do not know how. I use my crockpot at least 3x a week and this is the worst recipe I have ever made......bar none.

Cool and Spicy Melon Soup

Reviewed: May 29, 2011
"2 lime juice"? 2 what? Tablespoons, teaspoons, 2 limes? Can someone let me know what this is? I have made soups like this in the past that were amazing (hence the rating because I had to rate it to ask the question). I assume this is 2 T of lime juice but it would be nice to know.

Apple and Onion Beef Pot Roast

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2010
I didn't care for this at all. . It was just bland pot roast and I usually serve foods with more spice and zing. I won't be making it again.

Round Steak Sauerbraten

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2010
This is great. I browned it and then put it all in the crock pot. My goodness it was tender! One person in my family actually added cream cheese to his meat and loved it (not really sauerbraten but oh well). Great recipe.

This is a good recipe but not nothing really special. It is enjoyable though.

Alaskan Halibut Lasagna

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2010
This is a great recipe. By accident I added to much cheese (too much going on in the kitchen) and it became very oily. I also think my family will like it better with chicken and veggies. That said, this was great just the way it was. I also think I will use fat free swiss cheese or skim swiss cheese. Great recipe! Thanks so much!

Slow Cooker Thai Peanut Pork

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2010
This is excellent. I did not use bell peppers as I am on the only one in my family who likes them. I also added 1/4 t of sesame oil and used 4 cloves of garlic (we are big on garlic). I also only had chunky peanut butter and I think the texture added to the uniqueness of this dish. Will make again and again. I also think I will try this with chicken to see if that will work. This was very well recieved by even the pickiest of eaters. Thanks for the recipe!

Pumpkin Casserole

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2010
This was a amazing. It is like a cross between a souffle, a cake and pumpkin pie. I VERY picky 13 year old eater went back for 3rds (and the child practically lives on mac and cheese). I cut down the sugar and since my family loves cinnamon I added quite a bit. I served it with a spicy meat and it was very well accepted. If you love pumpkin pie, you will love this.

Stuffed Acorn Squash

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2010
I made this tonight and it was a huge hit. I didn't have chicken broth so I used homeade vegeable broth. I also scored the squash as another reviewer suggested and rubbed the inside of the squash with a bit of brown sugar (my family has a sweet tooth). Also taking another reviewer's suggestions, I mised all the ingredients in a bowl (sugar and the butter that I melted) and then put it in the squash. I didn't have the garlic powder (we go through it a lot and I just happened to be out) and forgot about the onion powder. It was great without these things. Thanks so much for this recipe. It will be used again and again. Oh and I was cooking a brisket and had to hold these in the oven for about 80 minutes and they were fall apart tender. Wouldn't change a thing.

Pigs in a Blanket

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2010
I loved this. I used beef dogs (and soy dogs as well and both are good). I also played around with the cheeses. Just as is the recipe is great but I added a horseradish mustard to some and hot sauce to some. They were very good. I will certainly make them again and use biscuit dough and not the crescent dough anymore. This recipe is a keeper.

Carrot Souffle

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2010
This is a fantastic recipe. I added a little of the water the carrots were boiled in (and saved the rest to boil rice in later so we still go the nutrients) to the blender to blend the carrots. I cut down the sugar and since we like a lot of cinnamon in my house I used a lot and this was a HUGE hit and trust me, I actually hate cooked carrots but this was more like a carrot cake taste wise. It will be made often in my house. Thanks so much for this recipe.

Crunchy Ice Cream Sandwiches

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2010
Any ice cream will do but regular vanilla is awesome. Also I add a bit more peanut butter AND for cool finishing touch, melt milk chocolate and spread them over the top and return to the freezer overnight.

Gelatin-Flavored Popcorn

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2010
This was very good. I only used about 9 cups of popcorn and like others said, cut the butter in half. I used cherry Jello and you could taste the cherry. I also followed the advice of another reviewer and added baking soda. The result was a crispy dry popcorn that you usually find on boardwalks and at fairs. I also baked it for about 40 minutes and that dried it out even more and made the taste pop. I am anxious to try try other flavors. This will be a good recipe to use at Halloween. I plan on using berry, pineapple, peach, orange and pina colada. I will also make grape but add a few drops of purple food coloring so it does not turn grey. Thanks for this wonderful recipe!

I have been making this for some time and its very good. I don't always add the chicken (if its a side dish I leave it out) and its still good. Its a no fail recipe.

Sesame Noodle Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2010
I add more chili oil to the dressing and actually add more vegetables to the dish. It's VERY good. I never serve it warm. I always serve it ice cold and its perfect to take to work as I don't have to fight for a microwave.

Easy Iced Coffee

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2010
This is ok. I made it the first time and decided it was the typ eof coffee I used. The next time I used a different brand and instead of the sugar and milk, I used sweetened condensed milk. I also a pinch of cardomom for a "Thai iced coffee" type of drink. Just make sure you use a good brand of instant coffee.

Fried Green Tomato Sandwich

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2010
This is good. I actually don't use straight up cornmeal. I make a mixture of white cornmeal, raw grits, yellow cornmeal and flour. It seems to stay on the tomato better. Sometimes I actually leave off the cheese and jalapeno and serve this on a rye bread. Its always awesome!
