Best Ever Pie Crust

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2008
I have finally found a pie crust that my fussy husband likes. I do 1/2 c shortening and 1/2 c salted butter instead of the full cup of shortening. I do this for the coloring it adds to the crust. A tip I have used for years is place the shortening/butter in a 1 cup glass measuring cup and place in the freezer for 1 hr. I will get everything else ready in the meantime. I take a glass of ice cubes and place water in. Right when I am ready for the water I pour it out into the glass measuring cup I used for the shortening. Nice and cold. I am able to mix, roll and bake in a matter of 10-15 mins. I totally by-pass the whole chilling in the refrigerator. This also it the easiest crust to work with. Thanks for sharing what has become a keepsake recipe!!!

My husband was eating my the handful without frosting. MMMMM he kept humming from the next room. New family favorite. Thanks for sharing...

Rugelach

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2006
Amazing texture and flavor. My husband couldn't get enough of these and he doesn't say much about cookies. These he did... "Keep them coming" I made part of the dough with raspberry preserves and drizzled w/melted milk choc when cooled. I made my daughter apricot with a can of Solo apricot fruit. She loved them. We did not like the mini choc chips in this recipe. Thanks for sharing. A new favorite in our home...

Easiest Peanut Butter Fudge

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2006
This turned out to be a perfect peanut butter fudge. It just melts in your mouth. Great flavor... I had several guest at Christmas dinner compliment how much they liked this fudge. Note; when I first made this I had a pinch of it to taste. Seemed way to sweet, after sitting several days it was perfect. The sugar must break down and the texture changes to a smooth-creamy fudge. Thanks for sharing... We loved it!

The best fudge I have ever made. It just melted in your mouth. It was smooth and moist just the way we like our fudge to be. Thanks for posting this wonderful fudge... I will use this for years and years to come. I enjoy adding candied red cherries to chocolate fudge for that chocolate covered cherry flavor. ALWAYS A HUGE HIT THIS WAY!!!!

Zucchini Casserole II

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2004
Our family has been making this recipe since 1980 when I graduated! It's a family favorite... everyone that tries it always asks for the recipe. Good stuff!!! If you enjoy stuffing you will like this. We like to saute the onions & carrots together until tender and then add stuffing. We also steam or microwave the zucchini as it helps to retain it's flavor and this process doesn't have the watery affect boiling does. We also drain the zucchini for a short period too. Enjoy... This is a keeper!

Bermuda Spinach Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2004
Thanks so much Dee for this wonderful salad you so kindly submitted! I made it tonight for my three college student kids and they loved it! I did cut the oil in half and next time will cut the sugar to 1/2 c just due to our tastes. I added tomatoes in place of mushrooms (didn't have) and added 1 c mozzarella cheese to help complete as a meal (filling). "Can you say YUM! Yes I can!" Great to have a new salad in rotation!

Favorite Old Fashioned Gingerbread

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2004
Incredible!!! My husband is a huge fan of gingerbread and said this was "PERFECT" He was worried when I said I was making it from scratch. I did take the advice of other reviews and doubled the spices, used 2/3 c of full flavor molasses and added 1/4 cup sour cream for moistness. It was amazing.... the BEST we've ever had. It was done in 25 mins. Thanks so much for this incredible recipe... We will be making for the remainder of our lives.... Hubby can't quit smiling!!!!

London Broil II

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2004
This was a wonderful! Full of flavor.... I added extra soy sauce, 2 more garlic cloves and 1 tbsp of brown sugar. My three kids went nuts... (19-19-21 yrs old) My 21 year old came home late from working on a college group project and make a steak salad, then he had to wake me up to tell me how great the steak was... I used 2 sirloin steaks I had in the freezer... Can't wait to try this on frozen hamburg patties and grill after a day thawing in this sauce... Also I want to try this on chicken tenders for a hoagie type grilled sandwich with onion and peppers and pepper jack cheese... Thanks so much Jill for submitting this recipe... We will enjoy for years to come!
