Cranberry Nut Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2007
I tried this recipe because I *love* cardamom. However, I felt that the amount of cloves in this recipe was a tad excessive and eclipsed the taste of the cardamom. I would have liked to have had a little less clove and perhaps a little more of those spices that traditionally accompany the cloves (cinnamon, nutmeg, etc.) However, the muffins were very moist, with a nice crispy muffin top, and they were quite tasty. My son gobbled one up every morning with breakfast! Thanks for the recipe!

Jule Kaga

A very good bread and easy to make. I added a teaspoon of lemon extract to it because I like the cardamom/lemon combo, and the taste was wonderful. The only complaint I have was that it didn't rise as much as I would have liked. I would make it again, though!

Spiced Potatoes

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2009
The kids gobbled these up! I cut the spices in half and used russet potatoes cut into wedges and the entire batch was gone at the end of dinner. Thanks!

White Velvet Cutouts

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2004
An excellent cookie! The cream cheese adds wonderful flavor and makes my tried-and-true sugar cookie recipe seem bland in comparison. I felt that 12 mins. was too long to bake them, though.

Creamy Deviled Eggs

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2010
These weren't great. The consistency was not to my liking, even with the pickle and onion chopped finely, and the onion was overpowering, despite the fact that I put in less than 1/2 c. I don't think the ranch went well with the yolk, either, so I've got a plateful of deviled eggs in the fridge that no one in my family will eat. The recipe sounded good, but unfortunately didn't end up well.

Easy Cream Cheese Danish

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2011
I made these thinking they couldn't possibly be as good as everyone said they were, but I was sooooo wrong! I'm a 'from scratch' baker and dislike using pre-packaged doughs and mixes, but I must say that this recipe came together wonderfully and tastes better than my local grocery-store bakery danishes. The amount of filling was perfect. It seems like a lot at first, but the dough rises in the oven and the filling softens and melts. I added a couple drops of almond extract to the icing, which was the perfect topper. I'm eager to try these with a little raspberry jam in the middle as well. Definitely a keeper recipe!

Marzipan Christmas Kringle (Juleskringle)

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2011
This was a *fantastic* bread recipe! The dough is soft and flavorful but the almond paste filling puts it over the top! I made my own almond paste and rolled the dough out into two 12"x6" rectangles, which I then rolled up and formed into rings. I left out the sliced almonds because my kids won't eat nuts they can see, and sprinkled the top with raw coarse sugar. I will absolutely be making this again!

Oatmeal Peanut Butter Cookies III

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2010
The first batch I made of these was gone so quickly that I immediately made another one. I followed the recipe exactly and I wouldn't change a thing. Definitely a keeper!

Rolled Fondant

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2009
This was extremely easy to make-- I made it all in one bowl using a pyrex heat-proof bowl as my double boiler. I also substituted corn syrup for the glucose. Best part of all: it tastes great. This will definitely be my go-to fondant recipe from now on.

Pumpkin Cookies with Penuche Frosting

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2008
These were *so* yummy and the perfect thing to eat on our cold, drizzly days. I baked the batter in a glass 13x9 pan for 25 mins. and the bars were perfect -- moist, and a nice balance between cake-like and fudgy. The frosting is fantastic and works so well with the pumpkin. Great recipe!

Rolled Buttercream Fondant

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2006
I made this with my eight-year-old after being disappointed with store-bought fondant. It was very easy to make and tastes *good*. I added food coloring to it to decorate my son's birthday cake and I love it. I will definitely use this recipe again!

Best Bread Machine Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2004
This was really easy to make, smelled heavenly while baking, and tasted great even though I used all-purpose flour instead of bread flour. The bread was easy to cut even while hot, and my kids devoured half the loaf immediately. This recipe's a keeper.

Ginger Bars

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2011
I went out of town for a day, came back, and the entire pan was gone! Beautifully moist and delicious, definitely not cakey, with a nicely balanced ginger flavor. I baked mine for around 38 mins., which made the edges slightly crispier than I would have liked, but the interior was perfect and cut into squares with no problem. These will be a fall tradition from now on.

Creamy Kielbasa and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2011
Delish! I took other reviewers' advice and used a full pound of sausage, seven potatoes instead of four, and milk instead of water. Everything else remained the same and I thought it turned out fantastic. Great recipe!

Grandma Georgie's Cardamom Rolls

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2011
Like the last reviewer, my rolls did not rise during the first rising either. Next time I make these, I will try them in my breadmaker. But they tasted delicious (cardamom is one of my absolute favorite spices) and I will definitely make them again in the future.

Caramel Filled Chocolate Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2011
These were out of this world! I was skeptical because of some of the negative reviews, but I'm so glad I tried this recipe. After looking at similar recipes on other sites, I decided to up the flour to 2 1/2 c. and added 1/2 t. of salt. I left out the nuts because my kids won't eat nuts, but left everything else the same. The dough was incredibly easy to work with -- I didn't even need to chill it, perhaps because I keep a cool house in winter. Regardless, the cookies turned out beautifully with no leaks whatsoever, and I'm eager to try this recipe with different candies.

Chicken Crunch

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2009
This recipe was just okay; nothing outstanding. It's definitely a kid-pleasing dish because it's basically chicken cooked in soup; but, for me, it lacked something.

Orange Breakfast Rolls

Reviewed: May 21, 2009
These were a scrumptious alternative to a cinnamon roll. I made a 1 lb. recipe of white bread dough in my bread machine, rolled it out and spread it with the orange filling (doubled). I rolled it up jelly-roll style, cut into rolls, let them rise, and baked them. So yummy! The kids *loved* them!

Autumn Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2011
I was very pleasantly surprised by the taste of these muffins. I subbed dates for figs and added raisins instead of nuts. I also halved the recipe which gave me 13 muffins baked in silicone muffin cups, and sprinkled raw sugar on top before baking to give them a nice crunch. The flavors in the muffin are very well balanced with the perfect amount of spices. Definitely a keeper recipe and the perfect autumn treat!
