Chicken Parmesan

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2014
Probably the best chicken parmesan recipe we ever tried!! Kids and hubby loved it, panko really makes a huge difference in how crispy the chicken comes out, I followed the recipe exactly the same although I did add italian seasoned breadcrumbs to the panko for more flavour, make sure to season your chicken well with salt and pepper on both sides before dipping in the mixtures. Next time I would half the amount of bread crumbs, I ended up with a lot leftover after I was done and I had to throw it all out. Will make again.

Creamy Mushroom Meatloaf

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2012
My family and I just LOVE this repie, I make a basic meatloaf with it (ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, bouillon powder, ketchup and warm water), and I cook the above recipe as stated, no changes as it doesn't need it, it's fabulous as it is, the sauce it produces is soooo good, and I serve it with mashed potatoes, green beans/peas. Great comfort meal on a cold winter day.

Chicken Breasts Supreme

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2012
I made this over the weekend for my family (husband, a toddler and a preschooler) and everyone loved it, the chicken was moist, the sauce was SOO good, I substituted fresh mushrooms for canned, and topped it with some grated real cheddar cheese instead of the processed one. I served it over egg noodles. I look forward to making it again and again!

Greek Salad I

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2012
Wonderful salad, loved it, I read one reviewer's suggestion of adding red wine vinegar and sugar to the dress and it just made it PERFECT. I'd definitely recommend using kalamata olives, they make a big difference.

Curry-Coconut Shrimp

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2010
I love thai food, and I was excited to try this recipe, I followed all of 'aglika's recommendations exactly as stated and was thinking it's going to yield a great result, this tasted nothing like I've had at good thai restaurants, I didn't enjoy it, I can't even explain why the sauce tasted off, but the combination of the flavours just didn't taste right. I will not make it again.

Slider-Style Mini Burgers

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2010
I made this for my 2 year old's birthday party, kids and adults loved them, they were quite a hit and I got asked about the recipe, I followed one reviewer's advice and made the 'special butter': 2 tbsp minced onion flakes, 1 tbsp worchestershire sauce, 1 tbsp Dijon or Spicey Mustard (not the regular yellow), 1/2 cup melted butter. You melt these together and brush ontop of the buns just before you put in the oven to bake. I highly recommend this step. I couldn't find the King Hawaiin buns, we don't have those in Canada, but I got dinner rolls at Walmart and they were good. Althoguh next time i'm in buffalo I will hunt for these buns and try them. Will make again!

Golden State Mushroom Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2010
I thought this recipe was pretty good, but a bit on the heavy tasting side, my husband really enjoyed it though. And I do agree it was quite simple to make. I also left it to sit for a few hours before eating, the flavours were enhanced that way.

Chicken Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2010
This was excellent! But I did make some changes, I didn't even take a chance of adding the corn starch to the chicken when marinating, big no no, it will get lumpy, I doubled the sauce for the chicken omitting the corn starch. Added the corn starch to the cold water before adding at the end to ensure it dissolves. I also added some mushrooms to the veggies, and some brown sugar to the soya sauce marinade at the beginning. I served with brown rice and sprinkled with chopped peanuts (you can also use cashews). It was SO delicious, would make again for sure. I don't like celery but in this recipe it was perfect and added a really good crunch.

Veal Cutlet with Red Peppers

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2009
This recipe has a lot of potential. I loved the sauce, but it did need more in the area of salt and pepper. Taste it after you add the corn starch and determine if it needs more, I'd add more garlic next time, also, I will not be adding the cooked veal to the sauce and veggies next time as it will get soggy, so I will cook them on high (and they cook pretty fast, a couple of minutes on each side) and then set them aside and cook the veggies seperately. I will make it again, I served it with brown rice on the side, I think i will try shallot next time to give it a softer taste.

Garden Fresh Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2009
This soup was delicious! I did follow a user's review and did the following: I doubled the recipe otherwise it makes very little and I like leftovers! Sauteed 4 garlic cloves in olive oil, added a large chopped onion, then added 6 cups of garden fresh tomatoes, must be sweet and ripe, I think I will add some fresh chopped basil next time, when it finished cooking I added 1 cup of cream and heated it through the soup, I didn't use a food mil to puree it, instead I used and immersion blender. It was great!

Shepherd's Pie

Reviewed: May 23, 2008
This was really good, but I made a lot of changes, first off I sauteed the beef with onions, added fresh mushrooms and frozen peas, seasoned with salt & pepper and a bit of all spice, when it was all cooked I added a can of Heinz Mushroom Gravy instead of the condensed soup cans. I also used the Betty Crocker instant mashed potatoes (2 pouches), sprinkled some cheddar cheese on top and baked it in the oven for 30 minutes @ 350. Following that I set it on broil for a few minutes to get a nice golden top. It was really good and my family really enjoyed it and asked that it becomes a staple recipe. This is what I would do a bit differnetly next time: I would only use 1/2 a can of gravy, and I would doulbe the amount of mashed potatoes and put a layer on the bottom and the top.

Chicken Shawarma

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2008
This was a really good shawerma recipe.. I think I'll try it next time with chicken breast instead of thighs, I don't like all the fat in the thighs, I wouldn't change a thing except that I would substitute 'mixed spices' with actual shawerma spices next time and see how it turns out, I found the tahini sauce to need a bit more lemon juice, it's not supposed to be thick. Otherwise very very good and super easy to make.

Easy Four Cheese Lasagna

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2008
This was excellent but I made a LOT of changes, so here goes, I sauteed 3 cloves of garlic in some canola oil, then added one chopped onion and cooked it with the garlic, then I added about 300 grams of ground beef, once beef cooked I added some italian seasoning and salt and pepper. I beat the cottage cheese (which is delicious in this recipe, I was actually unsure as I had never used cottage cheese in lasagna and I like it better than Ricotta cheese now that I know what it tastes like in this dish!) with 26 oz of pasta sauce, added the sauce to the meat mixture, and added another 1/2 can of pasta sauce to the mix, brought it to a boil, then let it simmer for 20 minutes. I used the oven ready pasta as that's what I had, and it's so much easier than the other kind. I followed the recipes in terms of the layering the same as it suggested, I covered the pan with foil as the oven ready pasta needs more moisture, uncovered after 30 minutes, let it cook for another 15 then broiled the top for a minute or two. It was DIVINE!!! Will definitely make again and again!! Highly recommended - this way :)

Chicken Piccata II

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2008
I'm a little surprised. Reading the reviews I had high expectations for this recipe. Perhaps this is how it's supposed to taste and I just wouldn't like it no matter what. I followed the recipe exactly as suggested, but used one reviewer's advice and added cornstarch to the sauce to thicken it and only added the chicken in the end, I also made sure the chicken was thin, so I don't think I went wrong anywhere, I'm not crazy about the taste, not a favorite and probably wont' be making again. It's not a healthy recipe anyways, with the frying and the butter etc, it's probably best that we don't eat this often, so I'm not so sad that we didn't love it!

Russian Mushroom and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2007
This soup is AMAZING!!! Perfect for winter, I can see it becoming a family favorite! I followed it exactly as stated, but instead of using 1/2 and 1/2 I used light cream (5%) and it was delicious!! I'm so happy to have found this recipe. Next time I'll experiment with different kinds of mushrooms.

Indian Chicken Curry I

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2007
I have tasted curry before many a times, and have been to many indian restaurants, this is quite good, it's not a hot curry, but it's mild, I used skinless boneless chicken breast, followed the recipe exactly as stated, and served it over aromatic basmati rice. It was excllent. Perhaps that previous reviewer has eaten one too many hot dishes and lost taste in the buds! Enjoy for a quick, easy and filling meal!

Sangria! Sangria!

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2007
This was delecious!!! Instead of buying triple sec, the liquor store sold brandy and orange together, it was very yummy! Also, instead of adding sugar I bought a sweeter wine that was recommended by the sales rep. Otherwise followed the recipe the same and everyone loved it!

Hot Artichoke and Spinach Dip II

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2007
I was so disappointed in this recipe. I followed it word for word, baked it etc. Everything seemed to stick together, it wasn't a nice gooey dip like i had imagined it. Will not make again.

Double Tomato Bruschetta

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2007
I hate to give this recipe a just 'ok', since it's gotten so many other good reviews, first of all, this recipe made a LOT of bruschetta mix, a LOT more than I ended up using up, so a lot of it went to waste, next time, if I make it again, I will cut it in half. I followed exactly as stated. It was 'ok', nothing fabulous, and I may not make it again. I found that it hardened right away when sitting outside, which is not great when you're entertaining.
