Apple Crisp II

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2004
Made this with apples off of our tree, and it was wonderful! Tastes just like apple crisp is supposed to. Perfect with vanilla ice cream, and would also be good with whipped cream. A must try!

Urban Legend Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2004
I have been using this recipe for ages. It is THE best chocolate chip cookie recipe around. I actually found it in a church cookbook, which did not call for nuts. My family eats these as fast as I can turn them out, and I have a reputation amongst our friends and relations for making a mean chocolate chip cookie. This recipe is my secret. You absolutly cannot leave out the grated chocolate. It is the key to the sucess of this recipe. The nuts can be optinal. My family actually prefers them without the nuts, but you have to add the grated chocolate. These freeze well, so I often make a double batch and freeze half for later. It is a family tradition to make these to take along when we go camping. I like to use two of these instead of grahm crackers for sm'ores. More calories, but SOOO good!

Mini Cheesecakes II

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2004
My sister requested cheesecake on her birthday, and since we only had one package of cream cheese, i cut this recipe in half and made six. All that we had was fat free cream cheese, and it still came out tasting great! I also added a dollop of sour cream, which was also fat free. Topped with cherry pie filling, cheescake nirvana! My sister was happy, and so were my parents, who love cheesecake but not what it does to their waistlines!

Bob's Cinnamon-Oatmeal Pancakes

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2004
These are pretty good. Nice flavor, texture was a bit dense. The batter was very thick. WAY too thick to pour, almost like a soft dough. I spread it out with the back of a spoon, and they came out fine, but I think that next time I will skip cooking the oatmeal in the microwave. I like a little more texture from an oatmeal pancake. Note: These smell WONDERFUL while you are cooking them!

Blueberry Cornmeal Pancakes

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2004
I really like these! VERY tasty, and I like the texture as well. We always have fresh or frozen raspberries on hand, because we grow our own, and I have often substituted these for blueberries. VERY good. I make these often.

Applesauce French Toast

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2004
MMMmmm. This is one good recipe! I usually wake up before the rest of my family, and they are all cap'n crunch and cocoa pebbles people anyway, so I often scale brunch and breakfast recipes on this site down to serve one and make them for myself. This french tost is some of the best that I have tried. Nice and moist, and the applesauce gives it a subtle flavor. Will make again, defenetly.

Corn Meal Pancakes

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2004
Pretty tasty. I liked the slightly coarser texture that the cornmeal gives it, but they were a little on the heavy, dense side. I did use regular milk instead of evaportated, because I was out of evaporated, and maybe that made the difference. I will make these again.

Bread Pudding II

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2004
Very, very good. I used stale Texas Toast, and my family devoured it. I ate it with rhubarb sauce, and liked it better than lemon sauce, but the rest of the family stuck with good ol' lemon sauce. This tastes just like my Grandma's recipe.

Mom's Applesauce Pancakes

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2004
Yummy!! I love experamenting with all sorts of different pancake recipes and variations. This one is a keeper for sure! Light, fluffy, with a nice subtle flavor from the applesauce and cinnamon. I have made these as the recipe directs and have added about 1/4 cup of oatmeal for a different texture. Both were good! I used Bisquick mix, just because that was what I had on hand. Works wonderfully! You defenetly have to try these! You will love them, I assure you!

Hawaiian French Toast

Reviewed: May 27, 2004
Tasty! I gave this recipe a try today, and loved it! I did not have any Hawaiian sweet bread, so I used Texas Toast instead, and it still came out great! I love the hint of rum flavor with the orange. I also did not make the sauce, but simply ate it with a sprinkling of sugar. Great, but will have to get everything that I need for the sauce and try that next time.

French Toast I

Reviewed: May 27, 2004
Exellent recipe. I have used both Texas Toast and whole wheat bread for this recipe, and both were good, though I would have to say that the Texas Toast was superior. Will have to try French Bread next. I often use egg whites in place of the whole eggs to make the recipe a bit healthyer, and it still tastes great.

Oatmeal Cake I

Reviewed: May 19, 2004
MMMMmmm. I once had a recipe for oatmeal cake with broiled coconut topping, one that I had torn out of a magazine. It was the first cake that I ever baked from scratch, back when I was about nine years old. I loved the cake, it was one of my favorites ever. However, I lost the recipe, and have been looking for it ever since. I saw this, and thought that it sounded right. It was! I have my favorite cake back! Thank you, Shirly Millar! BTW, I was out of coconut when I made this, so I used walnuts instead and turned it into broiled nut topping. Just as good as coconut.

Grandma's Coconut Pies

Reviewed: May 9, 2004
Veerrry good. Makes two nummy pies in no time at all. My younger brother loves coconut pie, and he could barely wait for these to cool before eating some. The smell while they were baking was wonderful. We did agree that they could be a little creamier though. All in all, a very good recipe. Will defenetly bake these again. They would be wonderful for potlucks, as it is a fast way to make two wonderful pies.

Rhubarb Cream Pie

Reviewed: May 8, 2004
This is identical to the rhubarb pie recipe that my grandmother uses. I just made it today with some rhubarb that she gave us from her garden, and my family LOVES it! My father even said that my piecrust is almost better than grandma's! Which is high praise indeed, because my grandmother is almost family legend for her pie! Even my sister, who is VERY picky and never tries anything new liked this!

Mom's Cheesecake

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2004
This was the first cheesecake that I have ever made, and it came out GREAT! I used a water bath, and it did not crack at all! I did only use one cup of sour cream, and I used fat-free, simply because that was what we had in the refriderator. My whole family loved this, and it was great with some cherry pie filling on top. Will defenetly make again!

Blueberry Coffee Cake III

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2004
I made this for my family tonight, and we loved it. I substituted walnuts for the pecans, because we were out of pecans. The batter was very thick, which was nice because I did not have to worry about it leaking out of the springform pan, though it did make it harder to spread evenly. I had to use a rubber spatula to get it spread out. I also used frozen blueberries, simply because we had them on hand, and did not thaw them before adding them in. Worked perfectly. My family polished off 3/4 of this cake in 10 minutes. My younger brother said that it would be better without the blueberries, but this was as he was vaccuming down his third piece, so he can't have minded too much. Will defenetly make again!

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2004
This is better than Kristino's hand tossed, which till now held my vote for best pizza in the world. I made one smaller pizza, 'cause my family likes a thicker crust. Delicious! It rose nicely and baked up perfectly. My mother once tried making pizza, quite some time ago, and the results were not good. My siblings expressed some reluctance to try another home made pizza ("EWWWW"), But once this was on the table, it lasted all of five minutes flat ("Hey, this is good")Defenetly will make again. And again. And...

Sourdough Drop Biscuits

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2004
I made these to round out a quick supper. I used a sweet starter, and the biscuits were quite tasty. Tender, moist, slightly sweet, and very good with a little apricot jam (my favorite) Spread on top. The rest of my family liked them too. Will defenetly make again, though I might make them a bit bigger next time. They are a bit on the small side. Maybe even twice as big would be good.

Amish Sourdough Pancakes

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2004
I made these for supper the other night, and had mixed reveiws. I liked them, and so did my mother and father, but my younger brother and sister said that they were "gross". Whatever that means. I guess it just depends on personal taste. I will scale this recipe to serve just one though, and make it for just myself. I liked them quite well.

Amish Friendship Bread I

This is only probibly the best sweet bread that I have ever eaten. If you do not have a friendship starter, get or make one, for no other reason than this bread. Unbeliveable. My family will polish off a loaf of this in minutes.
