Blueberry Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2014
Not sure what happened but this did NOT set up properly, even after adding in 5tbs of cornstarch instead of 3 as the reviews suggested. It did taste good. I tried making this again but this time, I cooked the blueberries along w/ the cornstarch, sugar etc just until the blueberries started to release their juices and the dry ingredients were wet and coated the berries. I then put in to a pie shell etc etc and baked it for around 50 or so minutes and it turned out MUCH better this time. Gooey like it should be, not soupy.

Fluffy Peanut Butter Frosting

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2014
I had to change it just a little for what I had on hand. Used crunchy PB, and heavy cream instead of milk. Nothing that would actually change the flavor. I must say, this tastes amazing! It didn't make enough for me to put on a layer cake though and was just a tad too thick (my own fault for not adding more heavy cream). Will def keep this recipe to make again though.

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2014
I made this w/ some modifications. I only used 1/2c of sugar, and used 1/2c sour cream w/ 1/2 of raw milk instead of buttermilk since I didn't have any. Everything else was kept the same. I also just melted the butter in the microwave. This was absolutely delicious though. I think w/ the full amount of sugar, it would've been WAY too sweet for our liking. Even with the 1/2 it was still sweet, but just the right amount and the way we like it. The texture was awesome. Very airy and cakey. This is definitely a keeper.

Yum Yum Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2014
Really good. I made this with homemade mayo and honey instead of sugar. By itself, the flavor is meh, but actually on food it's pretty darn tasty.

Creamy Italian Dressing I

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2014
REALLY good. I did of course change it some. I used homemade mayo, didn't add sugar, used a red onion, and used Italian Dressing Mix (minus the sugar in it) on this website for the Italian seasoning. Very delicious! This will def be a regular item in our house.. maybe with some feta cheese thrown in there every once in a while :D

Famous Japanese Restaurant-Style Salad Dressing

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2014
I've made this recipe as is and it's delicious! I do make changes to it now to try to make it a little healthier for us. Light flavor olive oil instead of peanut, honey instead of sugar, tamari soy sauce. Also this last time I made it, I didn't have a few items so had to make more changes. I used white wine vinegar instead of rice. I also just added more vinegar instead of adding water. Celery seed instead of celery. And I used a red onion instead of a white. I think this really helped w/ the flavor some to make it less oniony

Sweet Restaurant Slaw

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2014
Fixed this yesterday for a small family get together and it was a HUGE hit!! My husband, who despises coleslaw usually actually said to me that this was something he would actually eat on a regular basis! O_O Everyone gave it rave reviews and said how good it was. One person even scraped the bowl to get every last piece of it that was left. I did make a couple of minor changes that I don't think made too much of a difference in the end result. I used celery seed since I couldn't find poppy. I also used about 2-3 tbs less sugar, apple cider vinegar instead of white, and light flavor olive oil instead of veg. This was great. Wish I had made 2 batches instead of just the one. I will def make this again!

Perfect Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2013
Made this recently with some changes. I used graham and a shortbread pie crust. I also used 2tsp of pumpkin pie spice and 1tsp of cinnamon instead of the spices listed (except for the salt). First pie was just the pie in the graham cracker crust. As other reviewers mentioned it did have this weird film on the top but it didn't detract from the flavor. 2nd pie, I used the shortbread crust (which I prefered), and I also added a pecan praline top to it that consisted of chopped pecans, dark corn syrup, white sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract. Extremely delicious!! I think by itself, the pie is just fine, but with the added sweetness of the praline top and the shortbread crust, it made this over the top yummy!

Breakfast Sausage

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2013
Made an adjusted version of this. No brown sugar since I'm trying to avoid added sugar. No cloves b/c I just don't like the taste & no red pepper b/c I want to give some to my baby girl. Halved the recipe for 1lb of ground pork and AWESOME. Tastes so much better than store bought highly processed stuff. I'll never buy store bought prepared stuff again.

Slow Cooker Adobo Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2013
Very easy recipe and the house smells AMAZING. But there isn't a lot of flavor and the white meat on the chicken still came up very dry even though it looks moist.

Slow-Cooker Pepper Steak

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2013
One of my fav recipes. I do change a few things. I use a chuck roast. Just put it in to the crock pot instead of browning anything. Less for me to wash, the better. I also use chopped garlic instead of powder. I add in a little bit more bouillon than needed and don't bother with the water (I use the liquid bouillon). I just dissolve it in the can of tomatoes. Whole onion, no sugar (it's not needed), no cornstarch, and a couple more bell peppers. Nothing too drastic that would change the flavor really. Delicious!!! Best served over some rice and has lots of juice for extra deliciousness.

Easy Batter Fruit Cobbler

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2013
This did NOT come out as a cobbler. It's more like a spongy cake than anything. I was hoping for something crisp but no... it was very cakey and the flavor just wasn't what I wanted. This one is really simple, but it's not what I was hoping for.

MMMMM... Brownies

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2013
A few notes first... You are NOT NOT NOT supposed to do the toothpick test with these brownies. I made that mistake at 25mins in. Toothpick came out with lots of wetness n it. Baked 5 more minutes and did it again and realized that this is how these brownies are supposed to be. With SO much melted chocolate in it, it would be impossible to determine doneness by the toothpick test. Follow the times given in the recipe and you will have a delicious gooey rich brownie! I will never buy box brownie mix again. these were AWESOME and would be perfect for Hot fudge cake sundae or just a plain ole scoop of vanilla ice cream. I can't praise these enough!

Traditional Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2012
I just fixed this tonight and it needed A LOT more milk to make it creamy. I boiled the potatoes for about 25mins but think less would've been better b/c they ended up a little dry. The taste was great though.

No Bake Peanut Butter Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2011
I thought this was delicious. Silky smooth and yummy. If I ever make this again, I'll use a chocolate crust instead of graham. I did change some of the recipe. I made half for 1 pie, but I still used the entire pack of cream cheese b/c I didn't want to waste it, plus I thought it would give it a creamier texture. I also used just a little more than half cup of peanut butter, and I used heavy cream instead of milk.

French Pastry Pie Crust

Delicious! I made this for an apple pie. Although I didn't like the filling part that I made, I LOVED this crust! It was flaky and just plain awesome.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2011
This recipe needs to be WAY more informative than it is. I've never made an apple pie before so it would've really helped me make this recipe. First, I did use 8 apples and it was WAY too much. I had about 3 apples worth of slices left over that I had to throw away b/c they never would've fit. I'll be back to review how it tastes tomorrow. That remains to be seen. EDIT: So yeah, my rating still stands. The sauce came out pretty good, but the whole pie was just meh. Not understanding why this recipe gets such great reviews. The apples were cooked, but still a bit firm and that was even when I baked the pie for an additional 20mins. Just not my cup of tea.

Perfect Turkey

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2011
I've made this twice now and both times the turkey has come out delicious. The first time I followed the recipe. 2nd time, I used chicken bouillon in the brine and I didn't add any butter to the turkey. I also accidently overcooked the turkey, but it still came out tasty and juicy! Got so many compliments on it. Def going to be making this once again on Christmas :)

Chewy Caramel

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2011
These were delicious! I had to use rice syrup instead of corn, but it didn't change the flavor at all so they came out SO YUMMY! Key with this is to go slow. I'm impatient so had to really hold back from increasing the temp. It slowly but surely got to the proper temp though. Next time, I think I'm going to heat it just a little longer. Soft ball texture is delicious and melts in your mouth, but I'd like it to be just a little more chewy.
