Slow Cooker Lemon Garlic Chicken II

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2010
Excellent recipe, just added a little more water (probably about 3/4 cup) and some corn flour at the end to thicken the sauce. Very tasty over pasta and my whole family ate it!

Across the Border Tequila Shrimp

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2010
I expected a bit more zip, I'll do this again but might use fresh chili instead of powder. I served it over egg noodles, all in all it was a tasty dish and easy to prepare.

Breakfast Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2010
A light and soft cake with a lovely crunchy topping. I think sifting the flour is very important in this cake to add air to the mixture. I will make this again and will put a little cinnamon in the cake itself because we love cinnamon (I doubled the amount in the topping this time because of that) but that is all I'd change. This really is a great cake for when you've not got an egg in the house. Oh, and I cooked mine for exactly 40 minutes and it came out perfect!

Old-Fashioned Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2009
Gorgeous, filling, comforting soup. Lots of great flavour and so very simple to prepare. My only change was using fresh parsley at the end instead of dried during the cooking as that is what I had to hand. I will be making this soup again soon I am sure.

Caramel Creams

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2007
Fantastic recipe, although i needed a litle drop of water to make the dough come together. I didn't use pecans (husband is allergic) but I imagine they'd really boost the flavour. The biscuit is a bit like scottish shortbread in texture but with a gorgeous caramel hint and the buttercream in the middle compliments it beautifully. This is a keeper, definitely.

Spiced Farmhouse Fairy Cakes

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2007
I've given this a three because the cakes I made were gorgeous but I made a few alterations to the recipe based on the comments so if I'd kept to the original recipe it would have been too dense and not spicy enough! I added just over a cup full of flour and added a teaspoon of mxed spice in with double the amont of cinnamon and ginger specified. I also Iced these with a cinnamon butter icing and they were delicious! Ligt, fluff, spicy and satisfying.

Brooklyn Girl's Penne Arrabiata

very tasty and so simple! I'll definitely do this dish again, the contrast between the crunchy, crispy chicken and the soft, saucy pasta is fantastic!

Chocolate Frosting III

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2007
Great icing but I only used two tablespoons of milk and probably just 1 1/2 cups of icing sugar -it came out sweet, chocolaty and really easy to spread -yum. definitely start off with less milk, though , I think.

Hot Fudge Pudding Cake III

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2007
This makes a fantastically rich, fudgey chocolate pudding. The only change I made was that I put in just under one cup of hot water, just enough to turn the sugar and cocoa layer liquidy and nothing more. The sauce that formed was rich and thick...just perfect for my tastes :)

Rum Truffles

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2005
Great recipe. The chocolate was taking ages to melt for me, so I sat my bowl in another shallow bowl of hot water till it melted down. Really easy to make and so very very delicious. the alcohol is just a nice background note (and i put more in than the recpie said too) but you definitely need to usehigh quality chocolate to make them. Excellent present idea!

Aunt Bev's Famous Apple Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2005
I made my own shortcrust pastry and made these into small individual pies using a bun tray. I cooked them for about 2 minutes and they came out perfect. I love the cinnamon and nutmeg taste and how the apple still holds it's form, but is soft when you bite into it. Just sweet enough but retaining a little tartness -perfect. I used 1 bramley apple (they're massive) instead of 7 tart apples and it made 15 small pies :)

Matrimonial Bliss

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2005
It seemed like providence when I came across this recipe on my 5th wedding anniversary! I had to make it slightly differently, honey in the middle and alot less coconut (hubby isn't keen so i added more oats to make it up) and it turned out fantastic. Like a flapjack but not as chewy and lovely and sweet. This would be lovely will all kinds of jam type middles I think! Matrimonial Bliss it sure is!

Gingerbread Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2005
Great muffins, soft, moist and yummy. Tasts very much like parkin to me, so some of these will be done for bonfire night (I've just baffled the Americans out there, sorry!) but nope, I didn't dig the frosting much so do go with making your own I think. Actually, I don't think they even really need the icing anyway as they're so moist and yummy. I'll add a bit more spice next time, but i think i was a bit skinny on the measurements anyways :)

Classic Chocolate Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2005
Excellent recipe, lovely chocolatey flavour-not too sweet nor too firm, lovely soft centred cookies. Easy to follow recipe, I just had to add a little extra flour to mine, say 2 or 3 tablespoons to get it to a stiff dough, shaping the balls was easy and my 3 1/2 year old daughter loved helping. A great recipe to try with kids!

Shortbread Supreme

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2005
This made a lovely crisp biscuit(though I think I over cooked mine a tad) and I did add in a little vanilla as I was using butter flavoured margarine and not the real deal. Sweet, crumbly, crunchy and pretty tasty! Really easy, I left my dough in the fridge for about 15 mins though before attempting to roll and shape it. A great result from so few ingredients! My only comment is that they are a little bit bland, but if you're after a nice, sweet, plain biscuit, this will do fine.

Chicken Surprise

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2005
This is a great family recipe that even my 3 year old devoured with relish. However, the original recipe is too bland (in my opinion) so I added in a pinch of paprika, thyme, basil and a good few grinds of black pepper. I also added half a red bell pepper as i had to use it up, but i think it added a nice extra flavour and texture to the whole dish. In future I'd put in some diced onion and a little garlic too I think. This is not quite a 5 star recipe as I had to add an extra can full of water with the tomatoes to give enough liquid for the rice to absorb. I will definitely be making this again and again and again!

I adore this recipe and have made several batches which have gone down with relish. I adore the cinnamon taste as it gives a lovely edgy to these sweet and chewy biscuits!
