Avocado Quick Bread

I liked the moistness, although it kind of fell apart. Also, it tastes, not of avocado (which I couldn't taste at all), but of orange zest. May try it again, but next time, I might try much less orange zest and more cinnamon, maybe some nutmeg.

Mom's Buttermilk Biscuits

Good consistency, but not buttery enough, even with butter-flavored shortening. Changed to half (1/2 of 1/3 cup) butter-flavored shortening and half (3 tbsp) butter, and the results were much better. This recipe apparently assumes you know to roll on floured surface with floured rolling pin. I did not know to do that the first time. Second time was much better. :)

Chewy Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

Wonderful! Since finding this recipe, I have made it several times, for company as well, and the results are perfect and very tasty each time. Tiny clarification - since the first time, I've been using unsalted butter. Salted butter, on top of the added salt, leads to very salty cookies.

Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus

Very good. I've made this many times since finding this recipe. I also blanch the asparagus before wrapping and roasting, per the other tips here. I'm still experimenting with bettering the results (they keep ending up very greasy and/or burned), but taste-wise, I can't complain! :)

Zucchini Bars

I made this once, and it came out delicious. :) I did make a few modifications first, though: 1) Added probably about 1/8 tsp of ground cinnamon to the flour mixture. 2) Mixed in probably a little less than 1/4 cup of ground walnuts to the dough before pouring into the pan. 3) Added some chopped walnuts to the top of the cream cheese frosting after spreading onto the cake. 4) Cooked much longer than is specified here. One commenter suggested squeezing the juice out of the zucchini, which strikes me as defeating the purpose of the zucchini in the first place. I just cooked for longer (until a knife inserted about 1 inch off-center came out clean - probably about 10 minutes longer, although I'm not sure), and it came out perfectly.

Strawberries with Balsamic Vinegar

Made this for my parents, who said they liked it. I personally did not: it tasted... well... of vinegar. The strawberries did retain the "strawberry" flavor, but only the "tart" part... the "sweet" part was gone. And since the "sweet" part is the part I like...

Cornish Pasty

The filling recipe is good, and the dough recipe is good... but I found that the amount of dough needed to be TRIPLED, in order to have enough to cover the filling. So I knocked it down a star because of time lost trying to do the impossible. The second batch with much more dough to work with worked much better.

Carrot and Fennel

This... what I will call a slaw... was fantastic. And just when I'd decided that I didn't like fennel (it tastes totally different raw). Per others' recommendations, I also added garam masala and a bit of salt, and then I totally forgot about the heavy cream, and it was STILL fantastic! Can't wait to try it with the cream! :)
