About this Cook
I'm a graduate student who is lucky enough to have a husband who will eat just about anything, so I can try almost any recipe on him. My parents are both abysmal cooks, one from lack of desire, the other from too much of a desire to eat quickly! After accepting that cooking for years, I'm trying to forge into the world of cooking with both feet forward so that our children will have food that they will associate with positive experiences... (no, I'm not thinking of those undercooked chickens, Daddy!)
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking Japanese and Middle Eastern food. The smell of rice with sushi vinegar is wonderful and my favorite spice combination is garam masala.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We did have some nice cooking traditions, in spite of prior statements! Every Easter, my mom would make a coconut rabbit cake (the rabbit made from two circular pans, one for the head, the other for a bowtie and two ears) which I always looked forward to as a sign of spring. Also, when my mom decided to cook a real meal, it was always tasty and interesting, not much of a tradition, more of a hoped-for novelty amongst my siblings and I.
My cooking triumphs
Perfect chocolate chip cookies for my chocolate obsessed husband!
My cooking tragedies
A disgusting curry with way too many carrots; those carrots haunted my nightmares for awhile!

Easy Devonshire Cream
I used this substitute for Devonshire Cream with scone for a group of hungry graduate students. Albeit hungry, and the plates were gone before you could blink. The best was when the ultra-shy student who asked me afterwards if I had anymore, which I did (my own hoard), but I think if it could get her to speak up, the cream with the scones must be extraordinary!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie
My husband is a big chocolate chip cookie fan with discriminating tastebuds. He loved this recipe and brought some to school to share! They are big and fat, and with a little microwaving the second day, they are just as good as when they came out of the oven.

Melt In Your Mouth Peanut Butter Cookies
I made these last night for practice, and they came out nicely, but I would only give 3 stars because I had to follow the review before this: omit the water , add vanilla and reduce the sugar. They came out a bit too doughy, so I would reduce the flour to 2 - 1 34 cup because I like stickier peanut butter cookies.
