Emily's Famous Hash Browns

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2011
My hubby made this for us for breakfast for dinner tonight & they were awesome! We've never made hash browns before, we usually either buy frozen ones or make home fries. This was WAYYYYY better than any frozen hash brown I've ever had! So tasty & pretty simple to make once you have them all shredded, that was the hard part! Definitely will be making this again :-)

Honey Barbecued Spare Ribs

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2011
Did not like the sauce at all! I followed the recipe exactly & doubled it cause there wasn't nearly enough. I think it was too much lemon juice, it was too tart tasting. Soo glad I had a bottle of good BBQ sauce to save my ribs....I will not use this again, & I hardly ever give bad reviews!

Cinnamon Swirl Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2011
This was really tasty!!!! I used white sugar for the bread batter part & brown sugar for the cinnamon part. I also added chopped apples to the batter (I know its not the same recipe!) But I had some I had to use up & am trying to get more fruits into my toddler. He ate it right up too!! I served with cinnamon honey butter also from this site & it was soooo good :-)

Banana Cream Pie I

Reviewed: May 29, 2011
This was the 1st time I've made pudding from scratch, never mind a banana cream pie. I made it for memorial day cause its my father in laws favorite desert. The only change I made was to use cornstarch instead of flour & a full tablespoon of vanilla. I was surprised how easy it was to make although it was too sweet, I will cut back on the sugar next time. Also it was very runny! I read the reviews & everyone seems to think that using anything other than whole milk will cause this. However I did use whole milk, so I'm not quite sure what happened. Never the less I will still make this again it was very good, I will try letting the mixture thicken up more before adding the eggs in & see if that helps.

Spaghetti Sauce with Ground Beef

Reviewed: May 27, 2011
This sauce was awesome!!! I made one other sauce on this site & didn't care for it. But this one was great & easy too!! I browned my meat & veggies in a skillet & then transferred everything into my slow cooker & let it simmer on low all day! My only change was I added 1/4 cup parm cheese & a bay leaf to it & boy was it delicious! I made enough for dinner & to freeze :-)

Fabulous French Loaves

Reviewed: May 27, 2011
This bread was sooo easy & good!!! I was making from scratch meat sauce for my spaghetti dinner & realized I forgot to pick up a loaf of french bread so I found this & oh boy was it good!! The house smelt wonderful too while it baked! I cut the recipe in half & made exactly as written except I didn't have cornmeal (realized that when it was too late) So I sprinkled the baking pan with flour instead & it worked fine. I also sprayed some olive oil pam on the loaf instead of the egg white & then sprinkled parm cheese on top since I didn't have sesame seeds. I will definitely be making this again!

Italian Peas

These were not horrible but they weren't anything special. Probably wont make them again, although my 15 month old enjoyed them!

Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: May 11, 2011
OMG to die for, absolutely phenomenal!!!! I usually use the quick & easy alfredo sauce on this site because I don't normally have heavy cream on hand but I had some leftover from something I had made & wanted to use it up. It was the BEST alfredo sauce I've ever made! Tasted restaurant quality & wasn't runny like the other sauce I use. I think I may buy cream for this & toss my other recipe from now on! I used the sauce on some fettuccine & mixed in some chicken & broccoli that I stir fried in olive oil. Delicious dinner :-)

Carrot Cupcakes with White Chocolate Cream Cheese Icing

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2011
This was an amazing recipe! I was a little nervous trying out a new recipe to bring to an Easter party but it was a huge hit!!!!! I cut the frosting recipe in 1/2 & it was just enough. I also used melted white chocolate chips about 1/2 cup. And I completely eliminated the orange extract cause I didn't have any. I did the cup cakes exactly as written except I didn't drain my pineapple & I accidentally added the entire cup of nuts to the batter & it was still good! Baked for 20 minutes & they were moist & delicious!

Baked Chicken Nuggets

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2011
These were really good!! I made some butter milk & marinated my cut up chicken in it for a few hours. Then I skipped the butter & shook my chicken in a zip lock baggie with the dry ingredients. I could have used half a cup of bread crumbs I had a ton leftover! I also left out the thyme (hate it!) Baked on a cookie rack to crisp them up & they were so delicious & very moist! Next time I think I'm going to add some pepper & some garlic to the dry ingredients & maybe even try crushed crackers for some added flavor! Overall great meal though :-)

Ten Minute Szechuan Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2011
This was pretty good! The only change I made was using rice wine vinegar instead of the white because its what I had. I also doubled the sauce & added some chopped broccoli to it & served on white rice! Yummy :-)

Steak Tip Marinade

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2011
This was really good!! I halved the recipe & I didn't have any garlic pepper seasoning so I used regular garlic powder & ground pepper. It was very good & a nice change to the usual BBQ sauce!

Ginger Glazed Mahi Mahi

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2011
This was pretty good, I was looking for a different recipe to try & it was good. Although I'm not a huge fan of ginger (I know so why try this recipe when the name says it all lol!) But I thought the rest of the sauce would overpower it for me. But that's my personal preference.

Italian Spaghetti Sauce with Meatballs

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2011
I only made this for the sauce recipe cause I wanted to try making homemade sauce. I made it exactly as written & thought it was good but not great. I was not a huge fan of the huge chunks of tomato in it. I simmered this for 2 hours with Italian sausages in the sauce. Next time I will add way more spices (needed a little more flavor) & will either use diced tomato of I will puree the sauce before using it.

Toasted Garlic Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2011
OMG this was absolutley amazing! Way better than the frozen garlic breads I've bought in the past!! I doubled the garlic (which next time I will leave alone a little too much, but that was my fault) And I added parsley & a few shakes of Italian seasoning instead of the oregano! I Baked at 425 for 10 minutes & it was to die for!!!!!

Double Tomato Bruschetta

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2011
This was good, but my husbands aunt still makes the best bruschetta ever! I've never made it before & decided to try this since I had everything on hand except the sun dried tomatoes so I left that out. It had a bit of a kick to it that I wasn't expecting. It was good but not the best one ever! I will have to ask for his aunts recipe! Also....brushetta is not the same with shredded mozzarella......you need fresh!

Salmon Patties I

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2011
This was pretty good but noting spectacular. I was a little nervous I wouldn't like it since I like salmon but only when I make it 1 certain way, but I wanted a change & I like crab cakes so tried this! I will admit I couldn't tell it was salmon & it was pretty good though! I used a big can that I had to pick through the bones & skin. I made as written but added some 1 tsp old bay seasoning, 1 tsp lemon juice, a few shakes of Worcestershire sauce, some pepper & fresh garlic. I was at a loss for a dipping sauce so we dipped them in honey mustard.....interesting but not bad, need to find a better sauce though to really enjoy these. But thats not the recipes fault!

Brown Rice and Black Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2011
This was pretty good, but nothing special. I made it exactly as written except I added chopped tomato & replaced the can of green chili peppers with regular fresh green pepper. I used the leftovers as burrito filling & sprinkled with more cheese served with salsa & sour cream....this was a little better than the 1st time around! But still not anything special

Donut Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2011
These were ok. I made them exactly as the recipe was written & I found the muffin part kind of bla tasting. The sauce was the only thing that saved them & made them edible. Even still we've hardly touched them.

Kentucky Biscuits

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2011
This was so easy to make! I've never made homemade biscuits before but decided to give it a try! I was impressed! My husband said they were a little bland, & I agree they were a tad bland...but aren't all biscuits?!! Maybe adding a little more butter in them would give them more of a buttery taste? Although I would definitely make these again! The only change I kinda made was making my own buttermilk cause I didn't have any! I used milk & lemon juice & they tasted fine!
