Pork Chops with Jalapeno Jelly

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2009
Unfortunately, the jalapeno flavor does not come through.

Buckwheat Blinis

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2009
I ran out of time to make these, so refrigerated the batter after the 2 hour rising time. I don't think the overnight refrigeration affected the quality. I am going to serve them as pancakes to my son, but I had them with sour cream and smoked salmon. The buckwheat flavor is a bit odd if you taste them plain, but with a topping they are so good!

Pea 'n' Crab Pasta Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2009
It needs some red onions or other counterpoint to the sweetness of the crab and peas. I used a great tangy Italian dressing, but still didn't love this recipe.

Wacky Buckwheat Spice Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2009
I would give this 4 stars, but it earned an extra one for being such a hit with my husband and son! I doubled the recipe in a 9x13 pan and it was moist and had great flavor even though I didn't have any vanilla.

Momma's Wheat Germ Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2008
My husband eats nothing with nuts or coconut in it - for 10 years I have not been able to trick him into trying them! He saw me put the nuts in these, but not the coconut, but they must have looked so good he was willing to try. He can't stop eating them now, even though I confessed to the coconut. Truly magical cookie!

Dosas (Indian-style Pancakes)

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2008
The spices and vegetables were really tasty, but the recipe could have used some salt. I thinned the batter even more with some water.

Old-Fashioned Chicken and Noodles

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2007
My only complaints are that (1) though I followed the recipe my noodle dough was not the right consistency and (2) the recipe didn't call for enough salt. I put some rice and extra salt, and ended up with a delicious Chicken and Rice Soup!

Salsa Pasta 'n' Beans

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2007
This recipe didn't have much flavor. It was quick and easy, but lacking some spice.

Cheesy Horseradish Omelet

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2007
I was craving horseradish and searched for recipes with eggs for breakfast. This one sounded fast and flavorful. It was disappointing. The horseradish didn't really enhance the eggs, and the recipe calls for way too much cheese for my taste. The herb seasoning added flavor, but it made the cooked eggs look gray and unappetizing.

Apple Cabbage Toss

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2006
This recipe was very economical, which is why I selected it. It was simple and tasty. I served it with kielbasa and mashed potatoes.

Sitta Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2006
This soup sounded so good and so easy, I was really excited to try it. But the taste was disappointing. I only added 4 cups of water instead of 6 cups, but it really diluted the flavor of the tomato sauce. I added some dried herbs, spices, and lots of salt to make it taste better, but I wouldn't make this recipe again.

Cranberry Orange Oat Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2006
I made these to use up extra fresh cranberries after Thanksgiving. They were just okay. The orange flavor didn't really come through, though I used the zest from a whole orange. I would not make these cookies again.

Ninety Minute Cinnamon Rolls

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2006
These rolls were quick and fun to make with my 5-year-old. I like that they are made in a muffin pan, so they make individual servings. I think the filling recipe makes too much, as it bubbled over while baking. I plan to make a half recipe next time I prepare these.

Best Bean Chili

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2005
I made this recipe in the slow cooker, after browning the meat in a skillet. It was very simple to prepare that way. The seasonings were really good, no single flavor overpowering the rest. I think the brown sugar that gives it a barbecue flavor. I rarely make meat chili, but this one is a keeper.
