Bean Quesadillas

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2008
These were better than any I've had in restaurants. I added some spices to make it a bit hotter, and I baked the quesadillas instead of frying. Quick to make and easy to clean up.

Bean & Pasta Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2008
I used this recipe to get rid of some hamburgers I had in the freezer. Of course, I had to make do with the ingredients I had on hand, so I used onion soup mix, fresh tomatoes, and added some frozen veggies with the pasta (macaroni). Nevertheless, it turned out really great. I served it with warm naan. I can't wait to have the leftovers for my lunch tomorrow once the flavours really set in. Yum!

Basmati Rice

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2008
This was a tasty alternative than plain rice. I used chicken broth instead of water and added a dash of cinnamon. I could really taste the peas though, maybe a bit too much. I think I will put a little less next time.

Basil Tomato Soup

Reviewed: May 20, 2008
I had to use Italian-style tomatoes, but it still turned out great. Served it with grilled cheese and ham. Awesome meal, so filling and quick to make.

Basil Shrimp

Reviewed: May 19, 2008
I was pleasantly surprised with this recipe. I really didn't like the smell of the marinade, and didn't think I would like the finished product. I'm glad I saw it through, though, because the end result was really good. I couldn't find brown mustard, so I used a grey dijon. I also used sea salt. I fried instead of grilled. I would make this again.

Basil Roui

Reviewed: May 19, 2008
I used this as a topping to baguette slices, which I then broiled. As per other suggestions, I cut back on the bread crumbs. Next time, I will cut back on the garlic a bit too; it was a bit overpowering.

Basil Pork Chops

This was pretty good, though I couldn't really taste the chili powder.

Basil Pan-Seared Scallops over Pasta

Reviewed: May 13, 2008
After reading some of the comments about the lack of flavour, I decided to add a hot pepper just in case. It turned out really great. I did reduce the oil and butter a bit though. I also decided to go with sea salt. Very quick and easy.

Basil Mushrooms in Cream Sauce

Reviewed: May 12, 2008
This wasn't bad. I added a bit more sherry instead of the rum. I was worried I wouldn't have enough sauce for my pasta so I ended up adding about a 1/4 cup of milk near the end just to make a bit more. This may just be because I reduced the serving size for 1 instead of 4. I cooked up a pork chop in the pan before making the sauce, but I think next time I may just cook the meat in the sauce.

Basil Goat Cheese Pizza

Reviewed: May 11, 2008
I used a small, ready-made whole wheat crust and cooked it in my toaster oven. It was so quick to prepare. The flavours were wonderful. The only thing I added was a little garlic. I will definitely make this again and experiment with other toppings.

Basil Cream Chicken

Reviewed: May 10, 2008
Used hot peppers instead of pimentos. It was delicious! Update: This was even better as leftovers the next day!

Barbeque Chicken

Used chicken breasts and cooked them on the stove top. They turned out perfect. Lovely flavour, not too lemony.

Barbecued Shrimp

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2008
Very disappointing. I reduced it to two servings, but there was way too much Worcestershire sauce. I really had to work hard to salvage this into something edible.

Bangan ka Bhurta (Indian Eggplant)

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2008
It seemed like a bit of work so we just simmered the ingredients together on the stove til cooked. We increased the cayenne to our taste and added garam masala per another review. I don't know what the real recipe was supposed to taste like never having had it before, but ours was pretty tasty. My husband devoured it.

I mixed all the ingredients and marinated the potatoes for about an hour. I then fried them up. They turned out very good.

Balsamic and Rosemary Grilled Salmon

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2008
This was fabulous. I didn't have sea salt so I just used regular salt. I also used dried rosemary. I poached the salmon on the stove top with the marinade and a bit of water since I don't have a grill. The flavour of the marinade really came through, but it didn't overpower the salmon.

Balinese Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2007
I modified this recipe slightly to marinade chicken thighs and it turned out wonderful. Of course, they took a bit longer to cook, but they were worth the wait. I left out the sugar because of personal tastes and replaced it with about a tablespoon of tomato juice. Also added some extra pepper. The chicken was really juicy and tender.

Baked Scallops

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2007
Very easy and quick to make. I cooked it in one casserole instead of two to save on dishes. I adjusted the spices a bit by adding extra pepper, and some garlic and chili powders, just to suit our fondness for heat. It was yummy!

Baked Scalloped Potatoes

Not quite as good as mom's, but still pretty tasty. I halved the recipe and found that I didn't need the full cooking time. Per other reviews, I added some extra salt, pepper and garlic.

Baked Paprika-Parmesan Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2007
I added some chili and garlic powders, and I'm glad I did because otherwise it would have been too bland. The coating didn't stick on the chicken very well though.
