About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I'm vegetarian, so I like finding spicy or flavorful vegetarian recipes to prove to my friends and family that meat is not an essential part of a meal. I pretty much like anything with a lot of ginger or cumin.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every year I spend the days leading up to Xmas making *tons* of cookies. Decorating is the best part. :)
My cooking triumphs
After years of practice, I have finally perfected my pie crusts.
My cooking tragedies
I recently tried to make my own falafel from scratch. Everything seemed perfect...until I placed the balls into the hot oil. At first they just sat there, and then they slowly disintegrated until all that was left of my hard work was several inches of hot oil and floating bits of chickpea mixture. Apparently I hadn't let the oil get hot enough, so instead of cooking the falafel, I just dissolved it.

Moong Dal
A tasty and interesting dish, but I did have to make a few changes. I used two jalepenos, with seeds. I used a full cup of tomato sauce. I doubled all of the spices, including the ginger and garlic. I soaked the peas for two hours, then cooked them for about 45 min. And I omitted the Asafoetida, the cilantro, and the dried red peppers. After all that, the finished product was delicious! I'll definitely be making this again.

Quinoa and Black Beans
This was my first time making quinoa, and it was delicious. Easy too, since the only chopping was the onion. I only used one can of beans, and thought the proportions were just right. I will be making this again, and often.

Baked Tofu Bites
I was so excited to try these, and followed the recipe exactly, but they came out all mushy and ketchup-y. Normally I like tofu, but this did not appeal to me at all. My boyfriend and I renamed it "squiggly wiggly tofu with ketchup".
