Banana Loaf

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2011
This is probably the best banana bread I've ever made. I used whole wheat flour mainly because I have a whole bag of it I needed to do something with and 1/2 white 1/2 brown sugar and it came out fabulous! I will be making this from now on. ;)

Jalapeno Popper Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Reviewed: May 8, 2011
This sandwich is awesome! I did use sourdough and I only had Monterey jack instead of colby jack but it was a huge hit! I will be making this again very soon! What a great spin on a traditional grilled cheese. The only thing I was told was it actually needed a few more peppers. Thank you for sharing. :)

Breakfast Pies

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2009
These were GREAT!! I used just plain store brand bicuits and 4 Morningstar Farms veggie breakfast sausage patties. Everything else as directed. As with almost everyone else, I overfilled the tins or something and the egg mixture ran over, burned on the bottom of the oven and stunk up the house. :) However! The finished product was mighty tasty and I will be making more of them in the next day or so, for the freezer. Thanks!

Whipped Cream Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2009
This was fabulous! I can't stand cream cheese frosting or heavy frostings so it is great that the whipped cream makes the frosting so light. Maybe I got lucky but I just followed the instructions and it turned out great! I didn't have to chill anything special. The directions didn't specify any speed for the whipped cream and that was what I was worried about since I had never made it before. I just whipped the diddly out of it until the stiff peaks formed. :) I was a little afraid of it collapsing from my folding but, really, it held together very well. Only thing was, I found it really difficult to spread. Maybe I was just afraid of it because it was so light but even trying to pipe it didn't work well for me. So, yes, it was the ugliest cake I've ever made but the taste soooo makes up for it. :) Thank you for the great recipe!

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2009
These brownies are wonderful! Ok, so these are the first brownies I've ever made from scratch so I followed the recipe exactly...white sugar...13x9 pan...the whole bit. I did bake for 35 initial minutes but wound up having to bake them 20 extra minutes before the toothpick even came close to coming out clean. So I took them out after 55 minutes because I was afraid if I left them in they would come out like bricks. Even so, the toothpick wasn't clean. However, after letting them cool for an hour, I cut them into squares and they are fabulous! Chewy without being runny, hard or grainy. Nice and chocolatey. I love them for the very reason a lot of people don't...they ARE very sweet. This is exactly what I was looking for and I got it without sacrificing texture or taste! Thanks for sharing. This is going in my recipe box and will be made often.

Vegetarian Sandwich Spread

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2007
This is wonderful. I used Morningstar Farms frozen veggie dogs (my new fav). Thawed and cubed them, threw them in a frying pan with the onions for just a sec. to make sure the dogs were cooked. Not sure if they needed to be. Then threw the dogs, onion and relish into the food processor. Let them cool then added some Miracle Whip. Yum! Reminds me of the canned deviled ham sandwich spread I used to eat as a child. Great on a bagel!

Polish Style Lasagna

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2007
This is a keeper! I made 3 layers in a smaller pan. I used 2 onions and some rinsed sour kraut and mixed 3/4 of it along with the potatoes. I put the last bit left over on top of the noodles. It was wonderful!! Just like a perogie. Even with putting most the onions and the sour kraut into the potatoes, I still had to add extra milk to make the potatoes creamy enough to spread, as others have said and maybe I added too much extra liquid but hubby said it was one of the best casseroles I've ever made. Thank you for this!

Cheesy Green Chili Rice

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2007
This is very tasty! I did make the mistake of making an extra cup of rice for this. I tried to follow exactly. I did find that the extra sharp cheddar I used in the middle layer basically disappeared. I think I cooked it too long. Anyway, I loved the taste of this and might use another can of chili's in the future. I will definitely make this again! Great recipe!

Vegan Curried Rice

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2007
I usually don't like to rate recipes that I've made changes to since it isn't the original recipe anymore but in this case I really want to comment! I made this last night, using more liquid, as others suggested. I also used sushi rice because I like sticky rice and also because that's all I had. I didn't have veggie bullion cubes so I used a mix of 1 cup water and 1 cup veggie stock. I used the spices as listed and it was wonderful!!! Hubby went back for 3 bowls and that never happens! He said he should probably stop eating it but he couldn't! And it IS spicy. That is saying a lot coming from a person like me who's favorite category is "stupid hot"! LOL This a great recipe and I can't wait to try it with regular rice to see if it gets a creamier consistency. Will definitely make again!

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2006
Excellent bread! I followed the recipe exactly...oh wait, no I didn't. I cut the cinnamon in half because I didn't remember any other zucchini bread I've ever had tasting so much like cinnamon. However, Other than that, I did not add or subtract anything. LOL I did make one huge mistake, though. Instead of making 2 loaves I used what I *thought* was a larger pan and just made one loaf. It took double the time to cook and spilled over just a bit but it never burned and is still wonderful!! I have never zucchini bread before and I shouldn't have over estimated my pan but that is not the recipe's fault. My husband kept gushing about how wonderful this bread was, till I thought he was just saying it because he thought I didn't hear him! LOL He went back for more till half the loaf was gone before I ever got to taste it. This is definitely going into my keeper box!

Pizza Crust I

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2006
Hmmm...I don't know what I did wrong. I followed the recipe exactly and even added some herbs to the dough and the crust had the taste and consistency of cardboard. However, it was easy and this was my first attempt at pizza dough. I might try this again.

Dumplings

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2006
Wonderful recipe!! I tried 2 others and they were bitter. I doubled this recipe per others suggestions and added it to a mock chicken soup. Turns out I didn't need to double the recipe. I'm hoping the left over dough will make more dumplings tomorrow because these were delicious!!! Light, fluffy and not bitter in the least! I added parsley and a little dill to the dry ingredients and they were perfect!

Portobello Mushroom Stroganoff

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2005
This is the best stroganoff I have ever made. I didn't have fresh parsley so I used dried and it worked out very well. Also, I didn't have a portobello so I used button mushrooms. I'm sure it would have had even more flavor with the portobello. The only thing about every home made stroganoff I've ever made is I can't taste the sour cream (and I don't think this is the fault of this recipe). So, next time I'll probably reserve some extra sour cream to dolop over the individual servings. Otherwise this was a wonderful and tasty dish!
