My mom didn't cook much when I was growing up, so I didn't learn when I was young. I lived on Kraft Mac n Cheese and Lean Cuisine through college. Then I moved to South America, where you can't find many prepared foods, and I had to cook or starve. So I decided I'd better learn to cook. Ever since then, I've been teaching myself, having fun learning and experimenting.
My favorite things to cook
Mexican, risottos, asian-influenced food.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I grew up eating swedish pancakes, and they are probably my favorite food. It's the first thing I ask for when I go back home to visit my parents. My family also has made a tradition of "Special K Bars" (a gooey chocolately fattening and delicious treat).
My cooking triumphs
Chocolate chip cookies--I've got it down to a science and I'm very proud of it. I've gotten very good at risottos as well.
My cooking tragedies
Nothing too tragic yet.
