Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: May 12, 2008
This cheesecake is amazing! I made a chocolate ganache for the top (simmered 3/4 cup whipping cream, removed from heat, and stirred in 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate). I also made a chocolate crust instead of graham. I had to bake my cheesecake for 70 minutes. The finished cake was super creamy and looked professional!

Jamie's Cranberry Spinach Salad

Reviewed: May 12, 2008
This is a simple, nice-looking salad that tastes great. The only thing I changed in the recipe was to use baby spinach which I prefer.

Chunky Cheesecake Brownies

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2007
These brownies are amazing. My mother-in-law, an avid baker, said they were the best brownies she had ever had! I follow the directions exactly and they always turn out perfectly. I have made them with chocolate cream cheese as well-very good if you are a chocolate-lover!

Grilled Portobello Mushrooms

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2007
These were quite good. I took another reviewer's advice and grilled gill-side down for a couple of minutes before turning and adding the topping. I added crumbled goat's cheese to the top about 5 minutes before taking them off the grill. We though this added a lot to the mushrooms. We found a whole mushroom like this to be a bit much but thought it would be a great appetizer for a BBQ if cut into 6 wedges.

Basic Flaky Pie Crust

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2007
This is an excellent recipe for pie dough. I use it to make butter tarts(makes about 12 tart shells). I did modify it slightly, however, largely based on past reviews. I use the food processor to make this recipe and use a quarter cup of shortening and 2 tbsp of cold butter instead of 1/3 cup of shortening. I also find I have to add an extra 1 to 1.5 tbsp. of ice water for the dough to come together. With these changes, it is flaky and delicious!

Monkey Bread I

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2007
This was pretty good. Took it to a Father's Day brunch and everyone seemed to enjoy it. I gave it 4 stars because, while it was rich and tasty, you could definately tell that store-bought biscuits were used. I used Pillsbury biscuits. I will make again though as it is a quick and simple treat!

Lemon Pecan Pound Cake

Reviewed: May 14, 2007
I made this cake for my mom for Mother's Day who loves lemon. I found this pound cake to be very very dry. I followed the recipe exactly except for baking them in mini-bundt pans (for reduced time of course). Nobody finished their cake. I will not be making again.

Festive Shortbread

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2006
We didn't really like this shortbread recipe. The dough was easy to work with and held its shape well but I found the cookies bland. They tasted too much like flour. I would suggest reducing the amount of flour in the recipe if you are going to make them.

Pumpkin Muffins II

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2006
These are delicious. I have made them several times and everyone always wants the recipe. I always top them with cream cheese icing so they are more of a cupcake than a muffin. Like other reviewers, I have found that the recipe makes many more than one dozen muffins - more like 20 muffins. I have also made them using mini muffin tins and they turned out great. I just had to reduce the baking time to 13-15 minutes. This is a terrific fall recipe!

J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2006
These are the best biscuits ever! I usually make them in the evening and bake them in the morning. They are a great breakfast treat served with butter and preserves. I find the trick to be to use really fresh baking powder out of individual packets. I tend to have to bake them about 3-5 minutes longer than in the recipe or else they are sticky in the middle. Thanks!

Indian Chicken Curry II

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2006
This is a terrific recipe. Tasted just like in the restaurants in our 'Little India'. I made the following changes: added 4 tablespoons on curry powder and 1 teaspoon of garam masala. I also used the entire can of coconut milk and added some green pepper to get some veggies into the meal. Served with basmati rice and naan and it was a fantastic meal! Thanks for the recipe!

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2006
This cornbread was good but a little too sweet for my taste. I reduced the sugar to half a cup and it still seemed a bit sweet for me. Good recipe if you like a sweet cornbread.

Soft Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2006
Love these cookies! My only suggestion is to reduce the amount of cinnamon in half. I found the cinnamon a little overpowering when I used the full amount.

Chili-Lime Chicken Kabobs

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2006
I would probably give this 3.5 stars if possible. The marinade gave the chicken plenty of flavour, we just didn't really like the flavour. The combination of flavours seemed a bit off in my opinion. It wasn't bad but I wouldn't make it again.

Plum and Ginger Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2006
My husband and I love this recipe. It is a regular meal in our house. I spice it up a little bit by adding a few shakes of red pepper flakes and I use a spicy plum sauce. I just use whatever veggies I have on hand. Thanks for the simple and tasty recipe!

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2006
Absolutely delicious! I lined the pan with foil and I was so glad I did because clean up was a breeze. I halved the recipe but made three-quarters of the sauce. Spooned the rest of the sauce over rice. I used boneless, skinless chicken thighs and only had to bake for about 40 minutes. Thanks for the terrific recipe.

Penne with Spicy Vodka Tomato Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2006
We did not really enjoy this recipe at our house. I followed the recipe exactly, except for adding a few extra red pepper flakes because we like spicy food. We found the sauce stuck to the noodles instead of being smooth like we expected. Just wasn't our taste. I will keep searching for a good tomato cream sauce!

No Bake Cookies I

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2005
These turned out well but we thought the taste was only okay. We found the peanut butter taste overpowering. My husband and I prefer our "No Bakes" recipes that is similar but contains coconut instead of peanut butter.
