About this Cook
I've been married for 50 yrs. and we have 6 grandkids whom we adore! Am retired from banking industry and due to poor health am not able to get around like I used to, but still love preparing meals for my hubby.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy trying new recipes (even though hubby wishes I wouldn't) and working with my grandkids in the kitchen. We made cupcakes & cookies. I really like quick and easy recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving is always the same menu. Turkey, dressing, candied yams, fruit salad, mashed potatoes, deviled eggs, pecan & pumpkin pie. Everytime I want to do something different, my whole family cries, "NO". So we have the same thing again.
My cooking triumphs
My family thinks my mashed potatoes and cornbread dressing are my specialities. Even when they have dinner elsewhere, they come by for leftovers of my potatoes and dressing.
My cooking tragedies
While making a pecan pie for guests, the doorbell rang. After dinner as we were having the pie, I said it tasted different. No one complained, but I suddenly realized...I had forgotten to put any SUGAR in it.

I've been making enchiladas similar to these a long time. The hint I would offer is that you place the tortillas in a damp kitchen towel, place in microwave oven and heat for approx. 1 to 1 1/2 min. Much easier than method recommended and much more figure flattering!

Sloppy Joes II
WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL!!! Have tried several sloppy joe recipes and this is by far...THE BEST!! Only change I made was to reduce brown sugar by half (we didn't like it so sweet) and add 1 TBLS Worcheshire sauce. This is now THE recipe for our house.

Easy Texas Chili
LOVED THIS CHILI!!! DH said it was the best I'd ever made. Only changes I made was to cut recipe to half (only the 2 of us) but did use 2 lbs. meat. Used 1 can chopped tomatoes, 1 can Ro-Tel Mexican tomatoes and 1 14 oz can tomato sauce. Cooked in slow cooker on high for 1 hour and on low for 5-6 hrs. Will made this my main chili recipe.
