Classic Goulash

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2014
We love love love this recipe - thanks pathunt for submitting it! I've made it several times now and kept forgetting to write my review for it. The first time I made it I followed the recipe exactly and although wonderfully tasty, it was just a tad watery/soupy for my family's taste. So now when I make it I simply don't use as much water (I eyeball the amount). Wonderful!!

Kris' Lentil Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2014
Made this soup last night because I didn't have much in the pantry and needed a dinner idea. I used bacon instead of kielbasa (only because I didn't have kielbasa) and I didn't have celery so that was omitted as well. I added some thyme and paprika (dashes of both) and a tablespoon of vinegar as per other's suggestions. I halved the recipe (I only had 1/2 pound of lentils on hand). My husband declared this is the best lentil soup I've made for him, which says a lot as I've used several different recipes - including a "copycat" recipe for Carraba's lentil soup!

EZ Peanut Butter Pie I

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2014
The whole family loved this! I put the filling in a ready-made graham cracker crust; we also melted milk chocolate chips and swirled the melted chocolate around on top before putting in the freezer. It was SO very easy to make and great on a hot summer's day. YUM!

Luscious Lemon Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2014
My cake was not moist at all; in fact, I found it to be drier than if I had just used the cake mix itself and followed directions for that. The glaze did nothing at all for the cake except made it sticky and WAY too sweet. I thought the glaze would make it moist, but it seemed to make it drier (sticky) where the glaze was!

Beef Nacho Casserole

Reviewed: May 13, 2014
Made this exactly as written and it was a hit with my husband and stepdaughter. I was sooooo tempted to replace the Miracle Whip with sour cream, as it just seems to make sense, BUT I wanted to try the recipe as written. I'm glad I didn't alter the recipe because we all agreed the Miracle Whip definitely added something special to the flavor - a zippy tang that was unexpected! I did serve with sour cream on the side so hubby could add some on top. Also, I love how easy this recipe is to make!

Waffles I

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2014
Wonderful recipe! I have to admit I was too lazy to get the hand beater out to beat the eggs (I just whisked them up with a fork really well), but man these waffles were awesome. They really tasted great and everyone in my household loved them. What I love is that they don't have a lot of sugar and so they didn't taste terribly sweet like some waffles do. I made a full batch and saved the leftover cooked waffles in the fridge, then popped them in the toaster the next day for breakfast and I believe they were even better crisped up in the toaster the next day! Thanks for submitting this recipe!

Butternut Squash Risotto

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2013
If I could give this 10 stars, I would. OMG this was amazing. I didn't change a thing - the recipe is perfect as is. My husband thought perhaps a little bit of cayenne (we both like heat) would be a good addition, but I disagree. I think that would take away from the butternut flavor. You won't be disappointed in this dish - it's WONDERFUL WONDERFUL WONDERFUL!

Honey Baked Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2013
Made this for my family last night and it was a hit. Yes, the sauce is thin, but that was fine with us because it was soooooo tasty. I baked 3 medium sized chicken breasts as directed at 350, and it took roughly 50 minutes to bake. The chicken was so moist and tender - perfect! My stepdaughter especially loved this dish and was spooning the sauce generously on the chicken. I served with sweet potato fries because I thought the sauce would be great for dipping the fries into (it was). Thanks for a great recipe! Will definitely be making this frequently.

Russian Mushroom and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2013
Loved this soup! Made it exactly "as is" EXCEPT I didn't have any leeks at home so I used finely chopped onion. I think a leek would be better, but the soup was still awesome using a regular old cooking onion. This is a keeper!

Sweet Cornbread Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2013
Wow - my husband loves cornbread (of the sweet variety) and I've been looking for months for the PRIMO cornbread recipe to make for him. I've tried many many different recipes, and can declare that this is the ONE! We prefer corn muffins to corn cake (just easier to take in for lunches), so I halved the recipe and the result made 12 good-sized corn muffins. I baked the muffins at 350, for about 15 minutes or so (don't hold me to that - I wasn't sure how long to bake them as muffins so I kept checking them and pulled them out when a toothpick came out clean). They were moist, dense, not crumbly at all, and sweet (just like the submitter's description). Also, they were very easy to make. My search for the perfect corn muffin/cake is over!

Celery Stuffing

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2013
I made this for Thanksgiving last year and my husband (who LOVES stuffing with a passion) couldn't stop raving about it. He even ate it cold right from the fridge the next day... This is now my go-to "old school" stuffing recipe (I've made it several times since). I don't change a thing except to add just a bit more sage (one of my favorite spices). As a sidenote, I always bake it in a casserole dish; I never stuff the turkey with it and it turns out great. Never too dry...

Cabbage Beef Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2013
I had bought a large head of cabbage at a farmer's market and was looking for a soup recipe that was a bit "different", and also healthy. The first time I make a recipe from this site, I like to make it exactly as it appears so I can rate it appropriately. My husband was definitely worried because he didn't think the recipe sounded good; I, however, had high hopes because of all the great reviews (and knowing that we both love cabbage). The recipe did not disappoint, and I'm happy to say even my skeptical husband loved this soup! We both like spicy dishes, so once in our bowls we both added some hot sauce just to add some kick. As others have stated, it did remind us a little of chili, but that's okay - it's to be expected with ground beef, kidney beans and tomato sauce! The cabbage was wonderful and without the cumin I don't think the recipe would be nearly as delicious. I'll definitely be making this again!

Aunt Jules' Balsalmic Chicken with Peppers

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2013
Last night I was browsing the AllRecipes site for a healthy chicken recipe simply to use up some extra veggies I had on hand, and also because I didn't want to stop at the store. So I came upon this recipe. My husband and I love balsamic vinegar, so I figured this recipe would be "okay" and would at least fill our hungry bellies. Was I ever wrong... OMG - instead of "okay" it was wonderful. A real keeper! I didn't change anything about the recipe, EXCEPT that I used up the vegetables that I had on hand. As I didn't have asparagus or a green pepper at home, I didn't use those. I used one orange pepper, one red pepper and one yellow pepper. I had fresh mushroom to use up, so I sliced up about a cup and a half of mushrooms and used those. I also didn't have a red onion, but I had a large vidalia, so that sucker went into the veggie saute as well. Oh, and since we love balsamic, I did double the sauce since I'd read other reviews that did the same. Good thing I did -- my husband was dipping his bread into the leftover sauce, it's sooooooo good. Funny, I came upon this recipe in an effort to simply "use up" extra peppers and mushrooms, and discovered a recipe that we will definitely be enjoying time and again in the future. Thanks MellyBelly (and your Aunt Jules)!!! :o)

Tangy Slow Cooker Pork Roast

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2013
I have been making this recipe for a couple of years now, and finally am getting around to writing a review. I was reminded of how great this recipe is this weekend while visiting friends -- I had given her the recipe a while back and it has become a favorite of their family's. I have tried using balsamic vinegar instead of red wine vinegar, and I have to say I prefer that variety just a little better. Adding some fresh garlic is good, and I also typically add baby carrots, cut up potatoes and extra onions. This recipe never fails to garner compliments.

Mexican Style Shredded Pork

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2007
I made this dish for a "southwestern" dinner party I hosted. I had a lot of things to do before the party, and was in search of something EASY. There was a lot of other food begin brought over, so I must admit that I wasn't terribly concerned whether this recipe was an award winner or not... But I tell you what -- not only was it incredibly easy, but it IS an award winner. I was so pressed for time in the morning that I didn't even cut up the pork before putting it in the crock pot -- I just tossed it in whole. It still came out tender and was easy to pull apart with a fork. The was the only change I made. All my friends RAVED about it (and they're all a bit finicky). I could not have been more pleased, and have made it two times since. My friends have made it as well. Thank you SO much for this recipe!!!!!!!
