Pork Chops with Apples, Sweet Potatoes, and Sauerkraut

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2010
If you like dry pork chops and food with no flavor then this is the recipe for you. Okay...it's not really *that* bad, but I wouldn't say it's that great either. I used allspice instead of nutmeg and added some cayenne pepper as well but it didn't help much. I would definitely say seasoning the pork more before the initial browning would help a lot. In the end, it is a very easy slow cooker recipe but nothing spectacular.

Onion, Garlic, Cheese Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2010
Made this tonight to go with a baked ziti and it was a big hit! We had to knead in the onion, garlic and cheese by hand because we missed the machine's last kneading cycle, but it still came out perfect! Will definitely make again.

Butternut Squash Soup with a Kick

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2010
First time I've ever made butternut squash soup and I have to say the results were fantastic!! It was also very easy, just a little time consuming but it was definitely worth it. Followed the recipe except I left a few seeds from the jalapeno just to make sure it had an extra kick, and it sure did! Can't wait to eat up all the leftovers during the week.

Cabbage Saute

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2010
Very good! First time I've ever made anything with cabbage and I loved it. I had leftover bagged shredded carrots and vegetable stock and got a cabbage at the farmer's market and this was the perfect quick and delicious recipe. Accidentally doubled the amount of carrots (looks like about 1/2 cup shredded = one medium carrot) but still turned out great.

Bittersweet Chocolate and Stout Beer Ice Cream

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2010
The flavor of this ice cream is amazing. I doubled the recipe because I'm bringing it to a St. Patrick's Day party and wanted plenty to go around. I used one bag bittersweet chocolate chips and one bag semi-sweet to try and balance the two. It is fairly sweet (which I love) but if you don't have a real strong sweet tooth it probably wouldn't hurt to cut back on the sugar a little. The ice cream by itself is very tasty but it also feels like a blank canvas to add any of your other favorite ice cream toppers like nuts or whipped cream (toffee bits sounds like a great idea!) and I really wish I could make waffle cones because for some reason I imagine this ice cream going perfectly in one.
